    Default city gate open/close

I did a few searches before writting this can't fidnd it so I will ask.

I have seen the term having a closed gate or open gate a few times.

And I am aware that there is an option in the Rally point to Have or NOT have the gate opened diring an attack to send out troops.

So is that toggle what having an open or closed gate means? Or is there a specific location to close an open a gate? And if the gate is closed will traps and abitis and archer towers still defend you against raids outside the walls?

Gates open = troops fight on a defend attack
Gates closed = only thing that fights for you are your wall defenses

I was curious about this myself. Seems silly to have a good wall defense AND a strong garrison if you can only use one or the other

perhaps troops just get involved as a second tier defense after all wall defenses are destroyed?

    gates open
perhaps troops are first tier and wall defense is second tier to die?

I'm not sure anyone has figured out if one attacks before the other, but gates open means both your troops in the city and the wall defenses are used in the battle.

I got a combat report that involves both units and fortifications ( traps, archer towers... )

I think the open // close gate is there only to give you the option to save your army when you are offline.

If you feel confident that your army + your fortification could repels anything id suggest that you keep it open so that the fight wont last too many rounds. If you are to win you might as well win with less losses ressourses wise. In other words having your army in the fight along with the fortifications will reduce the rounds it will take to win the combat.

Here is the combat report i have with open gate :

    attacker : 1500 warriors 300 pikeman 500 archers 200 cavalry

as defender i won with : 200 archers tower 18 warriors 79 pikeman
    59 swordsman 85 archers 24 cavalry 200 traps and 110 abatis

    The fight lasted 23 rounds
    The attacker lost everything
    The defender lost all units and 200 / 200 traps 33 / 110 abatis
    and 41 / 200 archers tower

I guess its safe to say that the fortifications are quite strong when no siege weapon in the combat.
