So, How do I scan an area for locations. Moving the map around is slow and tedious. Are there maps that show larger areas to scan?

It refers to river flow, not compass directions. "Upper" means up-river, "Lower" means down-river.

Also, Lorraine, or "Lotharingia" was once a single duchy, but was divided into two separate regions in 959.

These are real regions which mostly make up modern-day Germany and its surrounds. Feel free to look them up.

Judging from the regions, I'd say Evony takes place roughly around 900-1100 AD. Approximately the beginning of the Holy Roman Empire.
