    Default A Gate To Limbo

General Weissmuller checked his watch impatiently. They should be here by now... Sure enough, as soon as he said it, an Opel Blitz drove up to the compound where the Pan Global Alliance's HQ was - it was an old, abandoned military headquarters that the Alliance had taken over to serve as their new HQ. Weissmuller watched as the Opel drove into the compound, where the occupants were taken under armed guard into the main building. I really think we're acting as if this is a prison camp, but I suppose General Kobayashi is correct - we need absolute security against these... things. Weissmuller made a mental note to apologise to the newcomers.

    -----------

Vierinissa cursed her luck. She had been taken from her company, put on a Heinkel He-111 and flown over to Sweden, with a group of people she didn't know, and quite frankly, didn't want to know. She had to take orders from a German general named Weissmuller. A German! The insolence was astounding, expecting a British officer to take orders from a German... Vierinissa remembered distinctly her father telling her of his experiences in the First World War. This war hadn't turned out the same way, though - she had the bullet wounds to prove it. France had fallen in a whirlwind campaign by the Germans the previous year - Vierinissa was seriously injured in the battle of Arras, the counter-attack that was a failure for the Allies... She remembered the long marches back to Dunkerque, and then, when she finally thought she'd made it, a plane had strafed her company, hitting her twice in the leg and the shoulder! The war had only been going for a year, and she'd had quite enough already - then came the posting to North bloody Africa of all places. Then the attack on the Italians, and the introduction of the Afrika Korps and that German genius, Erwin Rommel. Vierinissa respected and admired Rommel, just as most of her fellow officers did - the Afrika Korps was rumoured to be invincible... even Crusader did little to dent that belief. Crusader was a close-run thing, that's why... Battleaxe was a failure and cost old Wavell his job...

She looked at her companions. One was a Canadian elf, called Raknor. He seemed OK - she had met his platoon when they were both in Mersa Matruh; his division there for outfitting with equipment, and her regiment back for R&R after the battles of Battleaxe and Crusader. Then there was this weird bald man who looked like a stereotypical mage. He was a human, and he didn't speak much. He looked like one of those people you'd see from fringe groups who claim to be masters of the paranormal... Then, there was the Italian. Vierinissa figured as long as they stayed on friendly terms, he'd be OK. He looked a bit roughened up, to be fair - like he'd had a close encounter with a bush at a considerable speed. Then... there was the red-headed Nazi paratrooper. They called her the Black Fox. Vierinissa simply referred to her in her head as Scumbag - she was a Nazi, and she was a paratrooper. She'd fought in Crete... That alone drew Vierinissa's ire - Garan, her husband, fought in Crete before being evacuated... Perhaps they'd fired at each other. Garan did say he'd noticed someone matching Scumbag's description...

The truck driver showed his papers to the guard, then drove into the compound. A group of 20 men, armed to the teeth, escorted the group out of the truck. It was like a bloody prison camp... Maybe that's what it was. No... surely not. The group were escorted into the main building, and to a room in particular... There was a German general. He must be Weissmuller.

"Ah, here you are... Please sit down, meine freunde..."

Pagan sat quietly in the truck, discretely observing his companions. Out of all of them, the two most interesting was the Drow and the red haired woman. He had done his homework on them and knew that the Drow was British and the red haired one was German. This would without a doubt cause troubles, troubles that could end up with a slit throat or two (either by him if it would bring success to the mission or by one of them).
He follow the soldiers into the main building with his companions. The German that greeted them must have been General Weissmuller.

Sarin stepped out of the truck and pulled the collar of his jacket up,and hunched slightly instinctively making himself a smaller target and begain to run odds through his head of why the were here, the anonymous spell-weaver, the Ally elf's and the red haired elf, he knew they were all expendable in their host's eyes. As he entered the building with the group and caught sight of the general he mumbled under his breath "more accidenti Germans"

Fiona sat in the truck her shifted from each person she was in the corner her back to one of the walls of the truck. she knew she had to be careful she was a mercenary after all disliked by most people because she can get the job done usually better then anyone else. She looked and watched everyone in the truck. Fiona got a strange feeling from the drow she felt as if the drow had some tension, but she shrugged it off as her own thinking. After all she had gotten into a gun fight with another Drow on Crete when she was with the nazis the other one was very skillful and almost had killed her at one point yet the same could almost be said to him for her she had him in her sights at one point before one of his allies had seen her in the distance and shot at her.... of course that was before their little excursion....

She looked around at a few others like the human that she had remembered hearing his name as pagan, she couldnt see much else as it was dark in the truck. the truck stopped and as the doors opened she saw Sarin getting off the truck, a human who was on her side at one point. She remembered getting in a fight with an Italian who threatened her with the wrath of Sarin if she didn't keep her mouth shut, saying that he was a close friend to Sarin, but it took one cut with her knife to silence him. As far as she knew he was dead. Fiona remembered how he got close and started yelling she cut the knife across his body watched him fall and walked away.

One of many more times that something happened that HQ wasn't to happy about. She walked off the truck as she saw a German General her heart sunk, she will have to be even more aware, she could be turned in by anyone at anytime she knew she probably wasn't the most popular of former Nazis, "I better get some good pay" she mumbled as she walked by the German General

While in the truck, Lt. Raknor kept up a conversation with his three HQ men, talking of times past, and past battles in the war. Nodding to the female drow, who he knew was Vierinissa he asked, "Where else have you fought, besides in Africa?" just as the truck stopped and the rear door thrown open.

"I fought in France in 1940 against the Germans - we tried to mount the counterattack at Arras, but it ended up as a failure. The BEF and the French armies were... indecisive at best - incompetent at worst. Judging from my experiences, I err towards the latter. During the retreat, I was shot in the side by a German sniper near Amiens, then whilst at Dunkerque, my company HQ was strafed on the beach by a Stuka - we returned fire and shot the pilot, but not before two bullets hit me in the back of the leg and through my kidney - if not for my magic, I'd have bled to death on that beach... Oh, and for future reference... please acknowledge my superior rank next time, Lieutenant. Or do you merely talk to your superior officers as if you were exchanging small talk over a glass of ale in the Canadian Army?"

    Weissmuller cleared his throat.

"Sorry to break up the idle chit-chat, Captain, but we need to start." Weissmuller interjected.
"You're all probably wondering where you are, who the hell am I and why you're here. All of this and more will be answered over the next few minutes... As you might know, I am General Heinrich Weissmuller, the German liaison officer with the Pan-Global Alliance and your direct superior. You answer to me and me only, even you, Pagan. I know of your Illuminati connections, and even though they are sacrosanct to you, they must come second to the Alliance's orders. Where are you, is your next question. Well... This is an abandoned military base near to Angelholm, in Sweden; we chose this base for it's seclusion and it's relative protection. Sweden, as you all know and understand, is a neutral country with good relations with both sides; Sweden is more predisposed to Germany, however - Swedish iron ore makes the weapons that German soldiers use to defend the homeland-"

"Enough of this patriotic guff, General. You're not in the Reich any more."

Weissmuller turned red with anger. "Do not interrupt me, Captain."

Vierinissa shrugged. "Don't give us a lecture on how good and great your beloved Reich is. Your soldiers have shot at me, killed my men, destroyed my vehicles and forced my company to retreat hundreds of miles, and you have the gall to proclaim how good your soldiers are. Spare us the bluster, General, you can have plenty of time for that when a British captain is not around."

Weissmuller nodded. "You British have courage."

"No, sir, this is called insubordination."

"Well... As I was saying, the Swedish are neutral in this war, thus we'll have no interference from either side, Allies or Axis. Even the Swedish government is turning a blind eye to us... Anyway, the point of this alliance is to combat the planar gates and the incursion from... beyond Earth, let us say. There are numerous planes of existence in the universe, from what I learned. This is the Material Plane - the basis of life as we know it. There are other planes of existence too... I'm sure our British friend knows a lot about a particular two planes..."

Vierinissa nodded in agreement. "The main two focuses of evil are Hell and the Abyss. Hell is a highly ordered centre of evil, and not truly evil per se - it is punishment for crimes committed during life, but Hellish invasions are able to occur, and they occur once every 240 years or so. Most are minor, but in 476, the fall of the Western Roman Empire was precipitated by a mass Hellish invasion which attacked and destroyed most of Italy. The history books say it was Odoacer. It wasn't - it was Lucifer.
The other plane that we Drow are familiar with is the Abyss - it is pure, chaotic evil that reigns supreme in the Abyss. Few who venture there ever return, and those that do are scarred mentally and physically for life..."

Looking around, Lt. Raknor said "You still haven't told us why we're here, and why we had to leave our men. I should be back in Africa with my platoon. Instead, I'm in Sweden, with the three members of my HQ squad, listening to a German talk about planar gates, and boasting aboot his homeland, eh."

Having said what was on his mind, Lt. Raknor decided to stay as far away from the general as possible.

Sarin narrowed his eyes slightly and spoke up and looked directly at the General and the British Captain "So why do you need us? Because from what you two are saying it sounds like the world is ending."

Fiona was in a dark corner as the man talked, "Since we are on neutral ground here when do i get paid and what do i have to do?" She asked eyeing the general for a second then looking around at the other two who had spoken up. Fiona felt uneasy so she backed up a little more so that she was farther into the corner then before.

Looking at the woman in the corner near him, Lt. Raknor asked, "So why do you hate the germans?"
