The math is just a method to clear your mind. To try to 'clear the palate' as it were.
There was probably some polling done (think Family Feud) and 9 out of 10 people picked those two when asked to instantly answer a question (separate questions, 1 for color, and then later, 1 for tool).
Then some chain eletter writer puts them together somewhere decides to 'be spooky' and predict an answer. Knowing the percentages are high to get a hit.
It doesn't have to work all the time. Just enough to freak enough people out to send out more of the same chain letter.
It didn't freak me out at all, as I think there are like 5 red hammers.
