What happened here?

I thought Evony was all about "being close with the community" and all that stuff and now I'm wondering what happened to that? It feels like the Management doesn't even care about the community anymore other then to slap us when we're not being all "happy-go-lucky-about-everything" and that's a feeling I'm uncomfortable with. Why do the reps and administration feel they don't need to talk to us, the community, about who they're putting in charge? If someone is going to be in charge, it would be nice to least be able to put in an opinion on the matter before anyone is appointed. Now all this hub-bub is not entirely Jurnis's fault, he's just a kid that thought he was being selected for something special, but some blame does fall on him for not asking how we, the community, would feel about him being a mod before accepting the position. Blame also falls on the community (mostly me) for simply flaming instead of taking a more rational road, I should've kept my head about the issue. And blame also falls on the Management for not including the community in their decision, that felt like a low-blow. Overall, I would like to know what happened to the closeness of the Community and Management? Dawnseeker, Valkriah, and Foxybunny used to be on the forums all the time, now it only appears that they are on just to yell at someone or to tell us all to jump. It even seems like Lord Arumen and Wildor aren't on as much anymore, only appearing to ban people and close threads. As long as the Management separates themselves from the Community, things are only going to get worse and I want to see them get better. The Golden Age of Off-Topic was so because the moderators and representatives actually spoke to and interacted with all of us like their status's as mods and reps meant nothing more then a color change. What can we do to get such fun interaction back? and before anyone cries that I'm being butthurt, know that I'm being quite serious here and not an ounce of butthurt went into it. I want to hear the higher powers opinion on this because this is a forum and we all (players, moderators, representatives, and administrators) get an equal say.

Well... you are just looking generally at specific devs. Abstract and Bright is always on the OT, having fun, posting etc.

I know what you are feeling. Yes, I have gotten warnings and infractions before but I toughened it up, saying that I deserved that and I need to change that. Remembering that there are about.... 13 devs and 100,000 of us, so we need to know that it takes a lot to just WATCH us.

I read your post and I lost some brain cells. At first I thought this was a blow to the game itself and then I saw Jurnis' name. Then I saw something about the mods and admins being mind slaves who only come on to ban and close threads anymore. I'm not sure what you are trying to post but w/e.

I look forward to seeeing this thread closed by one of the aforementioned mods or admins.

since its going to be closed, my best bet is that the Mods are a in the shops looking up better mod banning weapons to try out :/

Na, i think they will give him a chance at least... well kinda... not? Hey, at least he didn't specifically target Mods and state that they are bad or anything... he is stating his opinion and saying what he wants to say.. etc.

Jurnis is the (unwilling) center of all the mania so it seemed necessary to include him in there. And do you not, at times, get the feeling that the mods HAVE become unfeeling robots? (Every rule has it's exceptions) That feeling unsettles me and I have been feeling it a lot lately.

It's not up to the community who the new mods are, it's up to the other management.
And whoever they may choose, the community should respect that decision.

well im more of a latecomer to the OT forums... i mainly dominate the Server 1 forums, but was bored and saw Crip, so someone has to troll the troll....


i have already posted my feelings concerning the mods... i dont like the invisible mode that Mods uses, since it seems like they do not want to talk to us anymore and rather camp to ban us.... i maintain friendly relationships with Boleslav, S1 moderator, so he is an exception, but still likes to ninja mod all the time as a downfall :(...


I can see that they are having trouble managing all the people in the forums at one given time. but in that case they could always hire more mods, or make junior mods that can only specifically mod one part of the forum and nowhere else.... such as a Server forum representative... they can get someone from, say S2 or 3, whichever one has no mod atm, and give them Mod powers to regulate that particular server. of course they would choose the most mature and blah blah blah...

as a result, we can free up space for people like Bole to more regularly interact with their forum section members and keep them inform....

If we had input, then we would try to put in people like you or me, not someone deserving of the job, like rota or wn1. And then people like you would sit here and do the same whine, blah blah, whine, rinse repoeat cyvle when they turn the communtiys nominations down. Its not up to a community to decide who runs that community.

I don't believe that what I said in General Announcements was flaming either because it's true and I didn't insult anyone. And you should care about who is doing the job of moderator because a comedian can tell jokes but I wouldn't like for him to ran around as a FBI agent with a badge and gun.

You wouldn't put people like me in as a mod because I would not accept the position. Plus I believe that we're all intelligent enough to put someone in place that would actually do the job right. Or am I wrong about that too?

If you believe any moderator has abused their power in any way, please send the information to Dawnseeker and Valkirah with any examples you can provide. Abuse of power is handled very seriously.

You're definatley wrong. if we had the choice, do you really think we would put someone deserving in? Or someone we all like more? I think that would be a geneal latter half decision.

But how do I prove if Dawnseeker or Valkriah abuses their power? What do I do then? What can any of us do if Dawnseeker and Valkriah get out of hand? It would like Sawnsea all over again, only much much worse.

While i can understand the feeling of being left out of the process for things like this do you really think the community having a say is the best choice? idk about anyone else but the track record of us americans isnt very good especially lately when it comes to voting and such (which is essentially what your asking for). I for one like the way mods are selected simply because it takes popularity out of the picture and selects those who actually deserve it.

So let me get this straight: according to you, we're all too stupid to put someone responsible in charge? I'm just trying to understand what you're saying.

I don't mind not being picked for modship, what I do mind is someone as.....You know what? I'm done having discussions about Jurnis and his modship. Now I more concerned with why the Management decided to completely ignore their community. We can't even get bigger avatar sizes, for goodness sake.

i.e. Admin chooses x people whom he feels are deserving, and asks community out of those who we feel.

Or

Community nominates X people to be taken under official review for the position.

Something that still gives the people in charge the final say, but includes the community in the process.

Sigilstone17... since you've put together a calm and thoughtful post on the subject, you deserve a similar response. The mods read many posts to try and keep the boards civil and within the rules set by those we report to. No-one reads more posts on these forums than the mods, in my honest opinion. Coupled with the time it takes to review the posts on these forums, Dawnseeker and Valkirah spend a lot of time fixing problems players are having, and helping them. It makes sense that you would see them posting less than other mods, because they have a greater workload. From what I've seen, I think both do an excellent job. There is more work being done in the background here, than you know. More than I expected. Mods are still in touch with the community, are aware of the problems players face as well as any, and are helping (voluntarily)... greatly.

As for Jurnis' appointment as a mod... I knew little of him beforehand, but he's taken to his role like a pro. It is wholey appropriate for mods, collectively, to select those who will work closely alongside them to enforce rules and keep these forums a friendly and clean place to read and contribute. Dawnseeker and Valkirah review our actions... yet more work for them. If I or Jurnis are not doing our job, or are abusing our power, we can expect to have our moderatorships removed. I get to see all of Jurnis' actions too, as he does mine. He has shown great tolerance for how he has been treated by many members so far.

As for Foxy... her workload is extreme, and her duties don't include policing these forums. If you don't see her posting much and having fun with us all, its because she's working hard on her other duties, to benefit us all. She's a trooper.

And before I get the "suck up" accusations, I'll clarify... I'm a member and player too. I'm here voluntarily to help the other mods, but have no need to compliment, and no gain from complimenting them. I do so because I've been given a greater insight into their roles and actions than when I was a regular member of the forums. I call it as I see it. They work hard, and are on "the members' side".

Personally, I think Jurnis' appointment was a good one. I'm very happy to work alongside him, and those who know me know... I don't say such statements without good reason.

the answers you seek are right in front of you. and have played out letter by letter post by post over the coarse of this communities history. i know that you have been a part of this community for a long time and you may or may not know that i have too. the Golden Age you speak of is past and will never be reclaimed as long as apathy rules the hearts and minds of the community members. for good or ill we have made of our selfs what we are. you can accept that and participate to make this community the vibrant welcoming place that you claim to want or you can wine and complain that the good old days are long gone and no one seems to be doing anything about it. and i'm not pointing my finger at just one community member here. we are all, my self included, in charge of making this place what we want it to be.
so what you should be asking is, what can i do to make this place the haven i want it to be?

While I do think that Jurnis has somewhat immature humor and a less-then-likable personality, I do agree that he has been very tolerate of the crap I've slinged his way. If he does less of his "Dark Lord of Off-Topic" and "BANHAMMER!!!!11oneone" and "Grammar Police" stuff then I will actually support him.

I dont know enough about Jurnis to say how he was before becoming a mod but as for afterwards i havent seen a post yet that reflects any of that.
