You don't need huge armies, You can be virtually indestructable with less than 750k troops. You can farm all you need from 1 city to maintain that army. You can destroy any wave thrown at you. You can kill 1 million rams and still have 90%+ of your army. You ultimately have a choice... learn to play the game better, or just make a huuuuge army that will kill your motivation for the game trying to feed it, or drive you to cheating.
Its all a matter of choice. I'm still here, after 10 months, still with the same alliance, and most of the same people, because we played smarter, we learned the game from ground level, and learned to work together. The people who use third party programs and fool themselves into thinking its necessary, or who complain endlessly about food requirements and farming, have taken a different path and imo, its a shorter and rougher road. They weren't right for this game from the beginning.
I agree that period mergers are the way to keep the game alive for many. I'm ready for our next merge. :)
