I was BORN on the dark side ;)
No dude, I'm 41, and my online games date back to Everquest - the first one, and I've been an active gamer over eight consecutive years. Believe it, or not, I was shooting for brevity. Regardless, I don't see how you could think someone could toss that together without having been there, although all my experience has been with MMO's, and on average, this board is real tame, relatively speaking. If I'd start a list a stories, I'd begin with the one of thousands of rather large images of anal polyp being left in every section of one board of a portal that hosted four games.
I have one foot in the clouds, but the other is firmly planted on earth, so I'm part realist. This is a business, and they're pulling in some serious money. You could come with me to the food pantry or homeless shelter and volunteer. Become a Big Brother. Get with some non-profit group dying for help. What's wrong with tangible rewards when "volunteering" in an effort that helps provides tangible results - huge mounds of friggin cash....
There's an attitude shared by a lot of management. Why "pay" someone when we can get people to do it free. Any suspect motivation seen in that? I'm not a pawn, or a sucker. I'd rather decline the gift, but I didn't need to. Games I played, I was able to get transferable items, and gave them away to the 'less fortunate'. In one game I got all the Mods together, and we hosted a monthly drop party, not only announced on the Forum, but I got the GM to leave posts on the games main site announcement section.
Besideds, Dark Sider, I think the people who would find the Mods motives suspect will do so either way. :)
Whoa! I can see I ruffled some feathers here. I apologize. :)
But I would suggest that Evony shall do as it sees fit, and that casting it's management in a bad light regarding it's treatement of volunteers is not exactly the way to endear yourself either. Why agitate to sow discord between Mods and the directors?
You took offence at my presuming you were young. Fine, I retract that. I am also quite mature enough to make my own appraisal on the quality of my relationship with this site's directors, and really do not need guidance in the matter. As all other moderators here. Thank you.
I have allot of experience as a forum moderator not for Evony but for other communities and from my stand point it's quit the "thrilling" job if I must say, it can be very rewarding how ever, it's YOU that keeps the forums safe and clean of smut and spam bots and it's YOU that keeps the forums up and running smoothly.
I think we treat our volunteers pretty well. They help us out by making sure people follow the rules, and they are able to interact with all of you in a meaningful way on a daily basis, talking about a game they love.
Its what we call a win-win (or as Michael Scott might say, a "win-win-win"). Its also why virtually every major gaming internet forum uses some type of volunteer moderator system.
We're thankful to our mods for the great work they do and to all of our players for respecting them. :)
I thougt this thread was for fun : Omight've been drunk while reading ... hehe
But all outa sudden I see serious posts : O Like a moderator thats born on the dark side, which kinda reminds me of darth vader for some reason.... can be serious >.>
Just had to say this = )
I believe that this thread has now completely moved from its purpose....
Judging from the comments and complaints I see on this forum every single day blaming mods for ridiculous things, I don't think I would ever want to mod a gaming forum of any kind. LOL. Kudos to all the volunteers who do it, I admire your patience and durability, I really do. I mod a forum or two that are full of mostly young people, but I think my job is a lot easier than you guys have it. Well I say that apart from the occasional spout of pubescent e-drama I'd deal with of things like "halp, he called me a ....ban please" or "you mods never do anything D: ;__; waaaaah :( ".
In fact, I find being a host in this game much harder than moderating those two forums due to people getting their knickers in a twist over something said in WC or in whisper from an enemy. Virtual war produces virtual drama, but then that's part of the fun for them I guess... except for when they themselves forget the "virtual" bit. Haha! Gamers! Gotta love them... well most of 'em. lol.
So in short, kids cause way less e-drama than adults. :D
Drama?
What drama?
In around a year there have only been 3 or 4 attempted revolutions in OTD and only a few hundred or so casualties along the way. Mostly, members have wandered away because these forums have been too tame. Now GD, that is a different ball game all together. But that is where the n00bs post their hate mail to all things Evony, so you have to expect to see some drama there.
