Well, I'm taking the ACT tomorrow. Any of you have any suggestions?
To be honest, I only took the SAT, but I have a couple of suggestions for you:
First, if you cannot answer a question, move on.
Second, read and write, don't rush...
I am sure others will have tips for you as well...
Yes like Jurnis said If you don't know something move on, lots of people underestimate the time. Just because its a long test doesn't mean you have enough time, each section has a time limit and you cant go back after you finish the section. Also, yea SAT is multiple choice as well LOL
Yes, I took the SAT, and missed out on a world of questions because I was obsessed with answering one stubborn one.
I was lucky to get a good score on it in spite...
Also, read your questions very carefully. I cannot tell you how many times I have lost points over a stupid answer before.
It has been a long time since I took it but if I recall correctly you get penalized for wrong answers so you are better off skipping questions you don't know rather then trying to guess.
Okay I just looked it up, and no you are not penalized for wrong answers, so your best bet is to answer every question. Answer the easy questions first and skip over the hard ones, and then if you have time left over go back over the hard ones and either try to work them out or guess. If you google it you can find out more info about the test, instructions on taking it, as well as some tips.
Okay I've seen enough American movies to know what an SAT is lol but what's ACT used for?
*is completely confused*
The only exams I know of are IGCSE's, AS, A and A2-levels, and that's it.
What are these SAT and ACT things?
I can verify Mormy's post.
You don't get penalized for wrong answers, which is why you can safely skip the question if you don't know the answer.
The SAT scores points this way: -1/4 point for wrong questions, 1 point for right questions, and 0 points for unanswered questions.
I believe it works the same way for the ACT.
*whistles some random tune*
hehe...sorry about that...
That's true but it's better to guess and hope that you get it right. There's also lots of little tips that help.
Like in the reading section, There's i think 4 story things. If you know that you're not gonna get a 36 don't shoot for it, go for the best you can. It's better to try and read 3 of the stories in the time limit than all 4. That way you won't feel rushed and will be more accurate.
Math, don't worry about the trig part, which is sin, cos, and things like that. If you don't know it you can still do fine. In all there may be 4 questions over that. So if you don't know it don't spend too much time on it, just guess.
Science, really you don't have to know any science, it's more can you read graphs.
Can't really remember English. Must have been easy for me.
That's all i can think of at the moment, good luck!
do what ever it is that helps you focus that morning. keep a cool head, and dont get over excited or flustered. put everything but the test out of your head till the test is over. and when its done its done. dont wig out over it till you get your answers. do your best then let it go.
thats my advice.
If you do have to guess eliminate all impossible answers if you were to eliminate just 1 your chances go up 13% 2 goes up 25%. Also when taking test people usually group answers. If the four answers are
12
-12
2.765
456
It's more than likely the answer is going to be one of the twelves. So if yopu have to guess blatantly use that as a simple guideline. Also in my experience, if they do have "Not here" as an answer choice There have never been more than 3 not heres on any test I have ever taken.
Clear your head. Nothing you do between now and tomorrow to "cram" is going to help. As of now, you either know an answer or you don't. Relax and get plenty of sleep. Go in tomorrow and answer the questions. If it's a hard question, then skip it and come back when your done. Do all the questions that "come easy" first. Don't second guess yourself. You almost always get an answer wrong if you go back and change an answer.
Your future as a human does NOT ride on the results. You can always retake the test if your unhappy with the results, so there's no pressure to ace the test tomorrow. Just go experience the test. Whatever will be, will be.
Oh! One more thing...
Bring a piece of fruit to eat during the break. An apple or banana or orange, whatever you like.
Here's a quote from the ACT website...
A short break is scheduled after the first two tests. You will not be allowed to use cell phones or any electronic devices during the break, and you may not bring food or drinks back to the test room. (If you take the ACT Plus Writing, you will be allowed a brief break before the Writing Test to relax and sharpen your pencils.)
