Well, with centuries to work at it, you could probably manipulate a very large fortune. You could buy the influence to run at least a corner of the world to your liking. But, being worshipped as a "god" might be reaching a bit too high. ;)

[QUOTE=Mormy;1086446]I guess I am not young enough to believe that love will last forever. You may remember some bitter-sweet memories of a long dead love but it will always come again, and again, and again if you live long enough.
Well that makes getting old sound even better, lol
Ruling the world as a god would be impossible unless immortality also came with omnipotent powers. If anything being able to live forever would make you a target if it became widely known so it would not be something you would want to flaunt unless you wanted to spend eternity as someone's lab experiment. However if you were careful you could gradually amass a great deal of wealth and to some extent power, but power usually comes through the control and manipulation of others and it would be difficult to maintain the personal connections you would need without people finding out what you were, so more then likely you would become isolated from the rest of the world. You could maintain your wealth, but you would have very little real influence in the world.
Being worshipped as gods had nothing to do with immortality and everything to do with the technology gap. If you want to be a stargate-type god, then you can go do that now. With the right items and preparation, you can probably go find some tribe deep in the Amazon rain forest to rule as a god.
Or Chuck Norris. He never faints. I win, you lose, period.
Yup. I pulled out Chuck Norris. No one can beat Chuck Norris, except himself.
The whole body swapping version of immortality would work much better. That way when your body ages or gets too damaged you can just swap it out for a fresh one. Also if you ****ed off the wrong people and they tried to stick you in an iron maiden and dump you into the ocean you can just swap bodies with him and you would be the one pushing him off the cargo ship into the deep Atlantic. Then you can go home to his wife and kids, send the kids to bed and head upstairs with the wife. Then in the morning you clean out his bank account and move on to the next town.
No. Eventually ending up insane has already been mentioned, but other than that, if you can still feel pain, I doubt anyone would want to be immortal. Eventually the human species will die out and you'll be the only one around. You'll only get social stimulation from animals or talking to inanimate objects. Eventually you'll run out of power unless you can figure out how to run it yourself. You wouldn't be able to live a comfortable life like you do now. Then when the sun expands, you'll get burnt to a crisp. I can't even imagine how painful that would be. Then afterward, the Earth would basically be a lifeless rock, except for you. I don't see any pleasure in that.
I believe Death is a gift
look at old people around you do they seem enjoyig their lives?
or spending most of their time suffering?
I am basically against my existence
I don't want Heaven or eternal life or this world
if I see the one who is responsible for that I will ask 'my account' to be deleted
