Say what you will but anyone who has an active account in an active alliance will have a very difficult time being unbiased or being seen as such.

Moderators' powers are limited to the forums only. We also aren't allowed to fast-track any report because of our position. If I see a multi-accounter with all the evidence I can reasonably gather, and report it... it must be reported through the proper channels. If I report said incident to other admin/mods, I am scolded, and the report ignored because it was not reported in suitable fashion. If a friend has his account unfairly frozen, I can't help him. Mods have little power.
Likewise, I cannot moderate the server I play on, to protect me against claims of bias. I could infract/ban people on the forums who are from my own server, but my actions as a moderator are visible and reviewed in a timely fashion, by all other mods and admin. There are plenty of fail-safes to prevent what you are concerned about happening, not least of all a very careful and unanimous process by which mods are chosen.
I am yet to meet a mod I didn't think was appropriate for the job.
So a mod will never be allocated to moderate a server they play on?

I wasn't talking about anything in game. I was speaking purely on the forums. I am sorry but someone who is active on server one becomes a moderator and is forced to decide how much one person can get away with on the forums vs another a factor in that will end up being what alliance they are in. There's no helping that. If someone opens a thread bashing said moderators alliance you don't think they would be more likely to suspend or ban or close the thread than if its bashing an alliance he has no interest in? I do on the other hand think that the person who moderates server 1 should be familiar with the players of server 1 because they will know better how to handle them and the situations involved.
Just my opinion of course.
When I was appointed a moderator, it was the very first discussion we had... about 5 moderators and 3 admin, and they determined I should not moderate my own server, for my own safety. I agreed with that. If a mod is ever allocated to moderate a server they play on, I believe it would be a mistake, and one that Dawnseeker or Valkirah would quickly rectify if brought to their attention. That is why I have not created an account on SS20-SS25.
The player on Server 1 who becomes a moderator is not put in a position of having to decide what a player can get away with. A different moderator who does not play on Server 1 would then have that responsibility. I play on server N1. I see N1 threads all day. I cannot moderate N1 threads. If I see a post I have issue with in N1 threads, I don't run to the moderator who can moderate, I report the post and it is dealt with in the usual course of the responsible moderator's duties, as if I were any regular player. That's the way it should work, and is indeed the way it does work. :)
I do not think they would be more likely to suspend or ban in such situation, since I have been in that position. Mods and admin do a good job in selecting mods who would not act so inappropriately. In fact, my vice (now host) and I created a thread entitled "I Hate DaFallen" for such people to gripe and moan about our alliance, so such comments from players outside our alliance on the same server had a place to culminate all such messages and not ruin the rest of our subforum. lol
