My guess is that the "favorite team" of these forums would be USA. The vast majority of forum members are Americans that would choose team USA out national pride, despite their lower odds of actually winning. But, since they are not in the list, this will be a good vote to see the second most popular team of the Evony forum members.
I'll pick South Africa just because they are the host nation.
It would be a nice feel-good story if the host nation won despite their low odds. :bunny:
I wouldn't judge a sports team on their odds at all even though I agree that South Africa will not win the World Cup. The criteria would be more like: the current form of the team, the current players, depth of the squad and history of the team. Then again, I guess those are the factors taken into consideration when the odds are decided.
As I said in the other thread in OT, my favourite team is Spain because I like their style of play and world-class players such as Fabregas and Torres.
For that reason, most of the people who see this won't vote at all: they'll be asking "wrs da raders, wrs the cowbyz, wtf tis stupid"
Someone should probably clarify for us ignorant Americans that "football" in the rest of the world is what we call soccer. :D
By the way, I vote Brazil.
Netherlands obv
Italy all the way.
Being English I had to vote for England despite the fact I don't think they have any chance of winning. Out of the teams that do have a chance I would like to see Spain win and I actually do think they will win it.
THIS IS NOT FOOTBALL, THIS IS SOCCER!
Can't you guys call it what we call it...?
I have to agree here...we have "soccer feva" going on here so...we know it as soccer!
(Rota, I love you for saying that!!...Despite the last part...though it's true..:o)
I'd vote Brazil, as my family has been there before, and are in love with the place..but I can't yet get my finger to press the button, to vote.
Skitara, quit making us look bad. The world hates us enough as it is.
I went England. But when they lose I will support Holland instead.
Spain
torres and david villa
own all
Okay when the sport was invented it was called football ,
1. American Football they use a egg and thier hands so i call it handegg
2.It has been called Football for centuries and noone will change that just because some people like to call there padded wimpy sport football instead of handegg
I'm not going to defend the name thing. The sport Americans call "soccer" has dibs on the name "football" in my opinion. It was called football long before American football was ever invented.
BUT... do not call American football "wimpy." There are harder collisions and faster speed than anything you see in futbol or rugby or any European sport. I see over half of the futbol "injured players" are actually floppers. They get up 10 seconds after the other guy gets the yellow/red flag. When you get the flopper percentage below 5% then you can talk about toughness.
No, he called handegg wimpy which I agree with. Have the players take the padding off and then you'll have yourselves a good sport, like rugby. And Rota, how is handegg faster paced than rugby when you have 5 seconds of play time and then 2minutes of huddles? I tried watching the superbowl this year and it was very effective at putting me to sleep.
However, I will not argue the fact that modern Professional Footballers are complete pansies. Whereas in the past there have been cases of players continuing games with broken legs, keepers playing on with broken hands. I hope the players can regain some sense of pride soon as seeing them roll around the floor for no apparent reason is just sad.
And get over your "America ownz all" attitude. Britain had its era, you've had your era, now i suggest you get used to sucking up to China.
If you want a slow sport, then try watching baseball. UGH!!! :D <snore>
I consider all that time footballers spend bouncing the ball around midfield to be worse than any time American football spends between downs. Football is INCREDIBLY slow paced if you look at the time between teams "making a charge" on goal. It's far more boring than any American football game, in my opinion. That is which is why a common football score is 1 - nil. UGH!! :( Get some nerve and just shoot the F-ing ball!!! :duh:
I meant faster on the field, not faster length of games. American football is very TV friendly with a pace that allows for commercials. The TV does not do justice to the speed of American football. I have been on the sidelines of football games, rugby games, and American football games. I can tell you that American football is much faster on the field than any other sport I have seen. The collisions are much harder, too. I think rugby players could give them some competition. But, the very fact that they don't wear pads makes them hold back a bit. The pads in American football allow the athletes more confidence to go "all out."
Maybe if I saw a live game then it would change my opinion of the sport and hopefully one day I get the chance to see one live.
I know what you mean about the padding providing confidence, I play the occasional game of rugby and i admit that sometimes players are hesitant to go into some challenges, especially when you have to stick your head down low right around peoples knees. But this is another factor to what makes a great rugby player, they have to be fearless as well as talented in order to be the best.
If you are watching good teams then the time the ball spends in midfield can be very entertaining. Seeing some of the worlds most skillful players make 50-60 yard passes with with pin-point accuracy or people like Christiano ronaldo and lionel Messi skipping past tackles as if the other players aren't there is great to see and well worth paying for. whereas watching people talk and crowd around is not entertaining. 1-0 is not a common score because the game is slow paced, but because it is very competitive. In american football you have 4 attempts to walk/run/carry/throw/kick a ball 10 yards, and then you get another 4 attempts to do it again and again and again all the way up to the line. Hardly difficult which is why you have big scores, the game is very biased towards attack. Football is a much more competitive game and requires a far greater amount of skill and teamwork to score goals which is why in general scores are lower, but when you see the top teams play the scores are generally much higher because the players are more talented and work well together.
I bet if all the rich snobby handegg player's played rugby they would crap themselves.
Also hurling an Irish sport has been proven to be the fastest sport and one of the oldest sports in history check it out here
watch all this movie its great
also these players do not get payed ANYTHING absolute nothing its just a hobby also there is no padding involved apart from the helmets(optional)
also +1 rep for that as when China awakes the world will shake
but we all know the leprechauns pwn'z everything ... EVERYTHING!!!
Go vikings
I'm as much in favor of Irish pride as anyone in the world. I'm all Celt at heart.
But, I have been to many lacrosse games, and the speed does not come close to pro American football. There may be some advertising tagline "the fastest game on grass," but that doesn't make it true. There is also nowhere near the collision factor of American football.
If pro American football players got on a rugby field, they would run over most rugby teams. That's very debatable, but I can guarantee they would not "crap themselves."
I like Ben Stein. I don't agree with all his views, but he's got a great mind. I would love to have a chat with him.

Who doesn't love him?
Okay guys.
If I see again what I have seen in this thread in the way of bashing different countries or nationality, I will see to it that the culprit(s) lose all forum privileges. Permanently.
There is no place in our forum for this.
Be warned.
Voted for Spain, i personally think they have the best lineup and chance to win. Im willing to compare as friendly as i can :).
Brazil: too old, who's good? Kaka(not really...) all of them are old, but still top 5 team. Still great, and who knows, could easily win again.
Spain: Best middle aged players out there. Torres, Xavi, iker cassilias, amazing squad.
Italy: There okay, but i dont think they deserve it much, there goalie it world class though and they do have some nice players, but idk...i cant see them winning again.
Netherlands: I like them idk why... They have some good players like Rafael van der vaart but not world class,I dont think there going to win.
South Africa: lol, well....There going to have alot of fans going crazy, i dont know any players so i cant really say but...I dont know if they can make it :p They have atmosphere, and the crowd behind there back.
Germany...hmm... okay, Germany have a nice squad kinda, lots of there players play fantatstic in the cup, but not so much in the leagues(my opinion :P) There very versatile, like a wild card i say.
England: Well...There chemistry is down right terrible..(im part english so dont be hating)
But they do have some great players, even if they dont perform as well as they do in the league, i cant see them winning though i would want too see them win. Rooney is a key player, but stevie seems to be playing bad of the late, we will see what happens.
France:............... Shouldint be in the world cup, thierry guy well...cheated.. I dont want them to make it even close, though they do have some decent players. I hope and dont think there going to win.
Argentina: Well, They have like 3 decent players: Messi(best in the world?) Maxi rodriguez(not bad) Carlos Tevez( he runs alot, thats why he isent bad)
Portugal: Well, this team dives...alot. But when they dont dive the play spectacular. I personally think Nani is going to shine this cup if he's picked.
Least to greatest of most likely to win.
South africa, England(meh, i cant see it happening),France,Netherlands,Portugal, Italy, Argentina,Germany,Brazil,Spain.
Spain- Great team one of the best International team's ever , but sadly dont perform during World Cups , prediction semi-finals .
Brazil- Over rated , not very good past there time and too much hype predicted quarter finals
Italy: No No No No No 40 year olds cant play in world cups prediction Round 1 knockout
Netherlands: always liked them , Schneider is a great player and a great architect of play also van persie robben and van derr vart also van bommel are great prediction WINNERS
South Africa: They are not bad great for the country to host it but they havent got the team prediction round 1
Germany- very good squad of exp players prediction final
England: Have a good team on paper but cant oplay well together , semi finals
France:as an Irishman i hope they all die in a plane crash on the way , i know thats harsh but its my opinion
Argentinagood team in places but rely on tevez and messi too much , semi finals
Portugal:Hope they dont win as they dont deserve it too old round 1
I don't think they are wimpy, but harder collisions than rugby? The sport of cavemen?I do not think so ):
I'll go for argentina, simply because of the brilliance of messi,he can carry a whole team with the performances he's put in for barcelona...would be nice to see england win but they have always lacked the flair needed in the modern game.
Round of 16:
France
England
Germany
Argentina
Netherlands
Brazil
Italy
Spain
South Korea
Australia
Slovenia
Uruguay
Slovakia
Switzerland
Cameroon
Portugal
Quarter Final:
Netherlands
France
Argentina
Italy
Brazil
England
Germany
Spain
Semi Final:
England
Germany
Brazil
Italy
Third Place Play Off:
England
Germany
FINAL:
Brazil
Italy
WINNERS:
Italy
Have to vote England being English.
However Spain are the best team IMO.
i think argentina might win, their players are in top form right now. England however wont make the semi's, we dont get enough controll of the game.
France shouldn't be there and USA will get knocked out in the last 16.
however it will be tight so theres no guarentee of whos gnna win
It will all depend on who gets injured wen and whos on or off form.
I say either Germany or Spain.
I'd like Germany to win, to be honest. Since Russia's not there, the Germans are the next best thing.
I don't like the English team. England will probably not win the Cup.
