Bzzzzz...wrong
Average player would have 3-4 cities. Many people dont make it higher than knight. Flats make up around 30% of the map so it is closer to 200,000.
Just to let you know, NPC's are made on flats. The average city would have around 4 NPC's they make and farm. Leave room for around 10,000 active players.
On 129 of age 1 without players making too many NPCs there was still room for 230,000 players most of who had 1 city and most of who were placeholders, but it shows a semi accurate reflection of the capacity of these maps.
Age 2 maps are similar, except the historical cities. Given the higher drop rates you can expect about 70% of players to have maybe 5 cities or more within 2 months of opening, so i'd take a guess of up to 40,000 active player capacity.
It's odd on how many servers there is
The issue that seems to be forgotten is that a new player starting on an established server is not usually going to work out in the long run: they will simply be too far behind to ever catch up most of the time. Even with a good alliance, they are going to have sub-par techs making it harder to reinforce their city effectively as much bigger players colonize their cities and start taking their resources, troops and heroes every day. While it would be possible to up-rise against the suzerain, if the gap between the players is enough, that might simply not be possible if the suzerain has 3-4 times the troops the colonized player has.
It's usually better for them to start on a newer server because everyone is on the same footing initially where they won't have to deal with players that have massive standing armies already.
The last time I checked the percentage of players on Na6 by state was about 30% and I believe it has dropped since then. This figure is inflated by the number of non players that have been Suzerianed. This creates a lot of empty space between players and Alliances cant prosper with very few members.
What do you expect when they release 4 servers at the same time. It was yet another dumb move by them. You should release 1 server at a time, like they did with Age 1, and open a new one once the server reachs near capacity. Instead of having 1 very strong active server they have 4 sparsely populated servers.
If this is the case then the tactic of knocking over an NPC a few hundred miles away goes right out the window. So now if you want to attack someone from a fair distance away you need to buy teleports/adv teleports. The free alternative has essentially been removed.
As of last night server NA6 was at 26% capacity
When I started playing the server was between 50 and 60%
i rekon they should bring out NA17, introduce a dam attack button aswel.
I don't play AgeII but I did beta test it. Initially you could attack and colonise with the restriction that the player you attacked was hostile (red).
It wasn't perfect but it made some sort of sense, as you could send attack waves to weaken them before colonising. The attack button was removed during beta testing and the game no longer made any sense to me. Perhaps I am overly aggressive but I thought Evony was a war game and not being able to attack any more changed it into something else.
Any way, the point I was trying to make is that there were both options (attack or colonise) originally, so saying that it would require more coding doesn't sound right to me.
I totally agree, so why are the server maps 4 times bigger? If they are going to cut them off in a time window they can't fill them...
As to game play of Age II , if something doesn't change soon I expect the game will turn into valley and NPCs wars.
For example, a guy ported in and took my valleys, OK, but I can't attack him because he was suzerain'ed by an alley.
So maybe I should get suzerain'ed by the enemy and go on a valley raid binge of all their allies, since they then can't attack me. Scouts, they have a use.
This really has to change.
Capella
I dont see why they made it so you can't build npcs, anyone have an idea?
Evony has decided to embrace the cute kitten approach to warfare. In the next patch you can also no longer colonize someone with troops- instead you will have an intense yet very polite game of scrabble to see if you can take some of their resources. Course, you will have to say "pretty, pretty please with gumdrops and Candy Canes" if you want to retake a valley you lost previously.
Rodri hit the nail on the head with the mallet of common sense. Evony is no longer a war game, it is an intense battle of 2nd grade Dodge ball using those inflatable non hurting beach balloons. Most of the servers on AgeII are now complete Ghost Towns, there is more action going on in Mortuaries.
I love what has been done, I can now build up my self esteem and pride of gaming by seeing how many abandoned cities I can colonize.
Its ok, Evony will soon be a text-based game on Facebook.
Just all go back to Age 1 :)
