1) Alliances in Age 2 have the same reinforcement benefits as Age 1, plus some extra benefits:

2) Additionally, in age 2, being in an alliance means you can get help taking historic cities. While the base historic12 can be solo'd, the level 14 and 16 historic city will need more than 1 person, and the 18 (atlantis) will almost certainly be an alliance-wide effort.
Nah...whisper. You can pull it off. Or use an outside social feature to communicate. Talk via gchat or msn, you could still pull off cap'n Atlantis.
