Rtaxx, while it is true that "twice as fast is half the time", to deduce that 100% faster would be zero time is a fallacy.
redbarron and dawnseeker have already explained it well and i will not repeat what both have said.
maybe if i put it another way, it will be clearer. i hope i do not fail in illustrating it.
Lets' take the example given and i will illustrate what happens to time.
Standard/normal example: 10 units in 1 min. <-- your making the SAME mistake rebaron made... I am NOT interested in the NUMBER OF UNITS per time... I am interested in reducing the time.... how do percentages apply to THAT
instead of NUMBER of units per time, show me the formula for TIME per TASK where task is a discrete unit which CANNOT be divided. (again, 9 women cantget together and have a baby in a month, so how do you reduce the TIME)
This is the formula (and we are not talking about evony, just pure math):
x = 10/ (10 + (10* Percent)), where x = time it takes to do whatever.
at 0% faster, x = 10/(10+(10*0)) = 10/(10+0) = 10/10 = 1 min
at 100% faster, x = 10/((10+(10*1)) = 10/(10+10) = 10/20 = 0.5 min, 100% being = 1.
at 200% faster, x = 10/((10+(10*2)) = 10/(10+20) = 10/30 = 0..33 min, 200% being=2.
and so forth.
NO, your TIME (not units produced) is reduced by a percentage of the TIME... 10 percent of 10 minutes is a minute, 50% of ten minutes is 5 minutes.
This means that you will reach near zero mins as the % goes real high (and i mean really high!).
We now thread to the use of the term infinity. This is used in calculus. If your % goes to infinity, then your time will go to zero.
Whew....brought me back to my college days as i have majored in math.
To be completely fair, you will notice a sort of pattern or series, which was the foundation of calculus.
I hope i did justice to the explanation to put this discussion to rest. If not, well really. some ppl will simply not get it.
