You point out a big flaw in the game design and hopefully someone at Evony will see this and understand what you are saying and make the correction.
Like I said, a reasonable amount of time needs to be given. Just because a players prestige does not grow for a few weeks does not mean they are inactive or deserve to lose any captive heros. So how long is a fair holding time for persuasion? 2 weeks? 1 month? 3 months? You need to consider casual players who may need a much longer time to farm for medals in order for persuasion. And some of those medals will take a long time to get if they only drop in level 10 NPC's and the player only has 1-2 cities.
Also, as far as inactive accounts where the player does not login... I am sure Evony is looking at this. A reasonable amount of time needs to be given before an account is deleted. I mean, normal people DO travel to Europe for 1 month at times. But is a hard 30 day rule good? Perhaps a player starts a server and sets up near 0,0 to claim the spot. But does not plan to actually be an active player on that server until 6 weeks from now. What about situations like those?
Player's should be allowed a "reasonable" amount of time to persuade? I agree, all heroes, Historic or normal, should be left in captive status for a week. If you haven't persuaded a hero within a week of capturing that hero, then it needs to go back into the general population. Regardless of whether or not is a historic hero.
If you spent money to capture that hero, too bad. You shouldn't be actively searching for and capturing HH unless you are ready for them. If you captured one fortuitously from your suzerain (as you stated) or some other happy circumstance, great, you get a week to persuade and make yours or you miss your happy chance.
I understand that some people have low activity levels but let's face it, if they have a low activity level, and they take 3 months to finally persuade the hero, how much longer after that before someone comes along and takes the HH from them anyway...

Oh yeah, and one more thing. As to the comment about people going away for work or vacation or whatever for 2 weeks or even a month at a time...
Why should such people be given an extra protection on a hero they've captured but not persuaded over the same type of person that has captured a hero AND persuaded them. That person could be attacked in the 2 weeks to a month they're gone and lose the HH they paid for but the person who can't/won't persuade their HH does get to keep theirs? That wouldn't be right.
Well, I really dont have an answer. All I can say is that life and paychecks and bills happen. 1 week seems a little tight to me. If I was calling the shot I would push for 2 weeks. I mean, payday comes every 2 weeks for most people. And I think 2 weeks is plenty of time to hit some level 10s and get national and justice. And some level 7s for some wisdom and freedom. All of which are required for persuading high level heros. So 2 weeks for payday so paying players can purchase medal boxes and 2 weeks for free players to medal hunt. So both groups get two weeks.
I disagree. What you are failing to remember is that this game is in constant motion and does not stop. So, the pace is dictated by the people who either spend the most money or have the most time to play. It sucks for those that can't play this way but it is how the game works. They shouldn't have to wait for us to catch up to them.
what some of u arent relizing is that evony has god awful drop rates for non paying players it could take 2 weeks to get from knight to baronet iv seen people play for months stuck at knight but after 2-4 weeks captive heros should be thrown back or.....we should be able to capture them
