Gear stars do work in battle

Since noone was doing it, I decided to just test it: Do attribute points from gear star levels have effect in combat? I tested it with a 32 attack hero, and putting a single piece of gear on the hero.

Note: they do not have an effect on training/producing/building/researching.

CONCLUSION

Killed more enemy troops when I had 11 stars on the hero, all other factors the same. Stars do have an effect.


The test is not 100% fail proof, just wanted to do some quick testing. Will do some more testing soon. It does sure look like gear stars do 'work' in battle.

However I have seen one report of a NPC 12 hit where the attacker claimed his hero was close to 600 attack with stars and 428 attack without and the results were more in line with 400 attack than 600 so we need more testing..

The most used formula tells us the damage you do with the starred test should be 6.5% higher ( attack modifier 1.47 vs 1.38), yet you only killed 3% or more enemies so there is still something weird happening....


Can you do a couple more tests ? ( like wait after switching gear that the hero stats update in statistics before sending him ? ( I'm asking this because the difference in kills is more consistent with a 3-4% difference in attack which might be explained if the first hero was 32 attack and the second at 38 ( I'm not convinced that when you equip gear the server updates the new stats at the same second so your hero might have fought with his no gear stats in the first attack).

How many would you have expected to kill in Age 1 ?
40k ?

( asking that because I was thinking about the thread I saw explaining how INT works in Age 2 and it turns out that in age 2 Warriors are the unit that gets the most benefit from int and HH have high int kings/queens.).

Yeah, something like 40-45K I guess.

WolfgangMA also scout bombed a LVL12 and LVL14, dont know the exact numbers, but he killed a lot less on LVL14s than LVL12s even. Seems they keep getting tougher and tougher :P

edit: or different kings/queens have different attribute distribution perhaps...

you know I was thinking about those discrepancy and I think that thread I saw about int explains the discrepancy very well...

In age 2 int acts like a flat life increase.

take a warrior with all tech 10.

He has 300 hp and 75 defense.

Now add a hero with 100 int.

You get the following :

Age 1 : warrior 300 hp, 125 def
Age 2: warrior 400 hp, 75 def

It takes 342 damage to kill your Age 1 warrior.
it takes 432 damage to kill your Age 2 warrior.

Making the Age 2 warrior 26.5% harder to kill...

Now the issue is we don't know what are the stats of the queen/king in HH but my guess is that it's a lot higher than 100 and I woudn't be surprised if the hero in an NPC14 has better stats than in an NPC12, explaining the difference....

That might explains why some hits on NPC10 go weirdly too, get a random high int hero and the battle looks a LOT different....

PS : sadly the same mechanics make age 2 rams weaker than age1, because they have so much life that a flat increase does very little... Basically the lower the life one unit has, the more it benefits from int..

There is way to find out how much int those heroes in NPC12 and 14 have :

Here is the trick :

Scout bomb an NPC10 with 10k scouts. Take note of how many warriors you kill.

Capture the hero that is defending that NPC10 to have a look at his int...

Scout bomb an NPC 12 with 10k scouts ( and the same hero you scout bombed the NPC 10 with) and then do the same thing on an NPC 14 and check the kills.

From there we should be able to extrapolate the int provided there is no additional hidden battle mechanics on HH ( which i doubt, it's just a lot easier from a computer software point of view to control the difficulty of the HH through the stats of the defending King/Queen....)


PS : for more data you can repeat the scout bomb/capture steps on several NPC 10 to verify how int and number of warrior killed relate to each others).

Re-ran the experiment and got the same numbers... should do another test in a different setting, if that comes back the same, its safe to say stars do 'work' in battle :)
maybe test it on an NPC this time.

I can't help but note that you're definitively declaring a 1.5-2% variance, which can easily be explained away by any kind of random modifier in the battle mechanics (such as a "die roll" type of modifier), as concrete proof, yet with the medals thread, 1000s of percentage difference is "just variance"...

There is no variance in the battle engine.

I can hit that valley endlessly, and I will kill the exact same troops every time.

All im saying, is that my test may not be 100% proof that stars have an effect in battle.

I ran tests too and found results similar to Woldere so they seem to affect attack but only for battles...
