Keeping Up With An Army!
1. Spam Resources
Spam whatever kind of resource you want! I would recommend whatever resource that sells for the most on your server. You need to have very large amounts of gold to buy food to maintain your army and to buy the other resources needed to build an army.
2. Scientific Research
You need to research as high as possible on whatever resource you have decided to spam. It is kinda common sense to do this. Dont spam Lumber and research agriculture. Haha
3. Valleys
You need to make sure that whatever resource you are spamming that you conquer as many high level valleys as you can to make the production faster! If you are spamming iron than you need to conquer as many high level hills as possible.
4. Cities
Do not place your cities close to each other! it then makes it a struggle to get enough valleys for each city. I would recommend that you space your cities between 3 to 8 miles away from each other. You can do whatever you want though.

I'd rather not sell resources that are worth a lot just for food.
Everyone that has a war city gotta have max techno.
If you have no farms at all and have all level 10 lakes that is worthless.
Depends. If you like transferring resources to a building city then you rather keep it close by. I have my cities that are in different states.

Nice guide for beginners, but once you get out of being a noob you shouldn't be selling resources for food. All the food you get should come by 5's or 10's. You'll need every last drop of lumber and iron to keep up with farming 10's and attacking people.

noob guide. that guys that said lumber and iron will b needed to the last bit-hes smart. u should be gettin all ur food from lvl 5/10 npc's or from grey or red flags.
