Wow, these threads are getting old fast.
TRANSLATION: "I R UBER! U gib meh bacz meh armehs!"
You guys are confusing 2 things here.
- The npc "nerf"
- The game continuity
The "Nerf"
The "nerf" (or I like to call it, an EXPLOITED BUG FIX) is a good thing. It applies limits to the higher players, and does not affect new players. Limits mean that the game becomes less strength-in-numbers (and game time), but rather strategy.
Although I don't see many strategies yet except layering attacks, it certainly gives more room to improve on the existing battle system, rather than spamming your 800k archers over and over.
Continuity
As for the continuity of the game, Evony is very alliance-based, which is a good thing. The bad thing is that alliance vs alliance battles do not feel very rewarding, due to the fact that you can never reduce their prestige. So attacking a strong alliance to prove your better will never show that way on the top scores.
Of course, there is Honor, but its so easy to gain and lose, that it seems pointless.
Working on Alliances is the way forward (opinion). Some simple ideas that could keep the game interesting:
- State kings (or queens), can be challenged between alliances
- areas of influence, highlight areas of the map that are influenced by different alliances. allow players to fight over that land. its hard to see who-owns-what on the map at times (especially valleys)
- ratings based on land owned by alliances (valleys, citys total etc)
These ideas will probably fall on deaf ears, but you should get the point im trying to make.
Tenksnit, post you ideas in the suggestion box. Good stuff!
The roaming thing won't happen. There is just no need of it. I am feeding about 90k ballista just fine barb farming twice a day, and hitting random players or turning them into NPCs. Hitting one level 10 NPC can feed my army for two hours, and I can hit two at once. Level nines are almost as good, and I can hit four of those at once. I am pulling in a sizable surplus without tapping any of my other towns, freeing them to convert to lumber havens and build troops for me.
If I can do it, anyone can. I am pretty much just a newbie caretaker with little expertise outside of how to crush any attacking army. Pretty sure most experienced players are doing a better job of it then I am.
The pulling together thing wont happen either. It really isn't too hard to feed yourself.
There will however be a mass exodus of players both newbie and vet if a big patch making things interesting doesn't come quick. I expect that alliances will do a lot of merging, and peace between the majors power in most providences.
Killing the medal drop rate for a month made a serious lag in new player expansion. I am seeing 250k pres people with 3 or 4 cities even now. Coming out a month later and putting a bull's eye on the backs of everyone without 500k troops with this NPC nerf is a really bad combination for the older servers. Stalling people's progress for weeks at a time and then making them a target for people out of their league is a terrible combination.
If a neat distraction doesn't come along in the next week or two, I expect that a lot of people will get tired of farming the helpless, or being helpless. The older servers will die, but the newer ones will do well, and lots will come back when they do the second age thing.
The problem is that this darn game is just so unfinished. It is a lot of fun, but nothing is balanced or well planed out. That means there will have to be massive end game balancing. Experienced players should be attacking other experienced players for massive amounts of honor, not pushing carebears into the mud.
If they do not make a true alliance war possible soon, I think Evony will end up with a very short shelf life.
No it doesn't, you have no idea what you are talking about. Since the NPC nerf I have had a food profit of about 200 million, and I haven't even been hitting the newbies hard or making too many NPC cities.
At this rate, I could triple the size of my army without having to stress too much, and I have just under 90k ballista, with the other 10k rolling out soon.
I haven't had to buy food, much less sell lumber stone and iron to buy food. I haven't even used the gold from the NPC cities to buy food.
The only thing this patch did was make me move my capital city from the hub to a NPC level 10 on the boarder. Thats it, and I am not even among the ranks of the die hard. I am only ranked 120ish. The real big fish are laughing this off.
This is a minor inconvenience that gets taken out on low pres players. This is not a limit on army size.
It's not necessary for new players that get attacked to leave the game. I believe that the Evony Developers intended to starve off the large armies in a few days, then to have the game re-focus on something other than Ghengis-Kahn-style looting across the land.
Until those armies starve, it will be interesting...in a way that only Evony's care bear rules allow anyone to survive.

Was there any need for this comment?
I can easily make 200mil food in my cities alone each day. Given this is not profit, its still easily done. Since you have failed to mention your army, apart from 90k ballistas, you probably don't much upkeep.
There are some of us who spend millions of food attacking a single town just in costs to march our armies. When one doesnt do anything apart from collect food , it will get very boring, and of course youd make a lot of it.
Its no wonder Evony has a short shelf life in your eyes.
The sky is falling.
The sky is falling.
lol Dont event try to think this method will work cuz it wont the big massive armies that do this will be the ones who will end up killing the game. the big armies can still be big if they just build a few flat out farm cities. so they have that city for troops. to attack the new players is to threaten this games survival.
Though everything stated thus far seems to be based mostly on speculation, I can certainly see the roaming mass armies happening (and indeed already happening to some degree). I'm relatively new to this game, and not an avid player (pretty casual, I'd say) and spend most of my time building myself up rather than tearing others down, but in a single day, due to the repeated attacks of a single user, my capitol city was completely demolished of nearly everything. Definitely a frustrating experience, particularly since the individual decided to continue for about a week afterward.
If it does end up being thrown into such chaos, I'll try to stay as long as I can, most likely.
