No, I know. I'm just saying, even the word being mentioned can set him off on a rant.

I do believe that the media brainwashes people, albeit they may or may not know it.
For instance, take all the subliminal messages in the late 20th Century cartoons, and the fact that the media focuses on celebrities so much.
If the news just did what it was intended to, -report the news- then there might not be as many problems as there are now. Sure, it'd be boring, but I really don't care that Kim Kardashian was spotted on Rodeo drive with a new dog and some hot new pink pants.
What do I care about? If there's a homicidal maniac with a machine gun running down my block shooting people.
The other problem with the news is that they're controlled by either politicians or financial advisors/ediors. They'll censor out what they don't want you to hear, but they'll feed you lies at the same time so you stay complacent.
An example of that could be seen in Nazi Germany during WWII when the news was controlled by Goebbels, who would spout out anything, such as 'facts' that they were 'winning' the war and 'crushing' the Allies and Russians, just to keep moral up and keep the people complacent.
In America, back in the Vietnam Era, the news would run stories about the war, showing very graphical images of the violence such as dead bodies, explosions, and the likes. 30 years later, in Desert Storm, the news was only allowed to show certain images of the war, and no violence.
