On ss9, my alliance was rank 1, now, on ss47, it's rank 5. Only some of the players there used money, and that was rare in itself.
Money is definately not needed to stay on top. Yes, it helps, but it's not a necessity.
Money is definitely a driving force in the early days of any server, but in the end everyone ends up getting mixed.
sweet thanks for the motivation
Yeah I agree with that completely...
I usually end up buying 2 medium medal boxes for the honor medals I need but thats not until about 2 months in on a normal server where I win crap off the wheel :P.
So im usually ranked about 1500-1700 in the first 2 months however once I buy the boxes and get to viscount or earl and pick up a city or two my rank usually ends up in the top 300-400 before the servers merge.
So yeah I would have to say if your going to spend money do it in the begining it helps a lot more then, then say oh 4 or 5 months in when all you really need is excaliburs and maybe want to spin the wheel, atleast thats what it seems like for me now...
I find moneys a lot more usefull early in game, because you can just buy baronet instead of having to try and farm it which helps a lot.
Later in game anyone can medal farm thier rank for free and get michs from level 10's but at that point in game Excalibur's and adv. city teles become more important, so money always has its use but you can get by without it.
Although having $20,000 to get instant catapults and archer towers wouldn't be too bad.
Personally I've only spent $10 total and that was spent on Excals and I currently have the 68th best attack hero in the server :P and i'm a earl, ranked 163 for prestige.
Ive never spent any money in this game, but ive noticed its most useful in the begining.
Nothing wrong if you got money to waste them a bit for the hobby you enjoy :)
i think so
In my server the 1 allaince has 534 mil pres
What server PRED?
ss51 lol if you want you can join
Pshh nah im gooodz
looool. Ok then
On the early days of the server, you will see two forces that seem to 'lead' the server-
Premature High-Title Players
and
Prestige Farmers
The former use money, the latter abuse the Prestige system.
Don't worry, though. Eventually, the real attackers' strategies will come into play, and these two forces will be mostly, if not completely, vanquished from the server.
As the game continues to progress, you'll also notice another sharp increase towards people who spend money on a regular basis for teleporting and uber-farmers who use Cappella's method. But this advantage is not enough to dominate. Even ch3ating won't get you far enough into the Top 10 list. It is only those who actually know how to play the game that actually reach the top. At least on Age I, anyway.
Here's a true story confirming that:
-On s31, there was a dominating coalition of alliances known as Jaq; #2 was Warriors of God, and they were at war. Well, there was this player - Zeul - who dramatically got to the #1 spot. We all watched him, and he was like the server's deity. Well, he quit once he grabbed that spot. So, after a month or two, I checked to see if his account still existed (as it would have if he'd spent money) - but it wasn't there! He dominated the server WITHOUT spending any money.
The people that get to the top of "their" game spend money. All of them. If they not spending cash money they spending time, and *cough* time is money ;).
There are some sweet spots where your heros get to a point they save some time in builds and troops, but then those with war cities want to port and attack.
I think that rank by paypal is more prominent at the beginning of servers. However even in late servers it can be a factor. For example people buying Excalibur/wealth of nations and other items which give an advantage over the non-payers of the server.
I'm from ss11/ss47 and I'm ranked 130 atm. I've had less than $100 spent on my account $50 by me, the rest by others.
I got where I am not by buying, cause had I known that more cities = less prestige, I'd never have bought the medals. I play long and hard.
Money helps to keep things progressing. However, on 132, My alliance is in the top 10 all the time. Many of our players don't spend money. Remember that it is a war game. If you are active enough you will progress quite well without needing to spend. Just keep in mind that holiday packages with upkeep buffs cost money and are great to get.
Ahem you missed my finer point. You not at the top by logging on once a day for a few minutes. Time is money too, just a different currency. So peeps that spend 8-10 hours a day getting to the top are still spending cash hours of time.
Can't mow lawns and close sales when sitting around hitting cities or barbs. In fact I'll brb I have some calls to make . . . . ;)
It basically depends on skill, knowing what you're doing, and playing the game smart. Anyone can make it to the top.. just remember prestige does not technically mean you're good. Players can easily prestige farm and get to over 100M prestige, like this player on my server (SS49).
Bang on. In the early days people just look at prestige and it's all the payers and prestige farmers for at least the 1st 7-10 days. This is ultimately a war fame so people can roll with 1 city and masage their prestige as much as possible, they won't ever amount to anything.
To me the mid-stage of the servers is where the good players shine. Thjis is say 2 weeks to 2 months where the skill comes through and again prestige is more relevant but not everything. At this stage you know who are the people who are dangerous.
After 2-3 months it stagnates a little. Many of the better players have quit and the people at the top are the people who sat under safe alliance protection while they built up and just basically have the most resources - through farming or whatever means.....
As far as reaching the top is concerned on 110 I got the #1 spot briefly before quitting after about 2 weeks with a free account but used ievony cents to buy a jr medal box and gave the account away with cents in the bank.
Looking at 144 that was never replicable, there are just too many people who pay massive amouns - looking at the heroes and titles. I started late there and it's been a haul but I'm touching the top 150 and I've only spent $5 to get a rose medal early. #150 is a fair representation of my strength there IMO but if you know how to handle yourself it's enough.
Basically learn as much as you can on how to attack and defend, survive the 1st 2 weeks and money becomes less relevant.
u can be on top if u play alot
