abra, we already got yelled at for derailing this thread by someone Very Important.
Did crip ever hear of the 2nd amendment of the Constitution, of the United States of America... or is he from a different country?
Guns, do I feel they should be legal or illegal....
Well personally I'm a big proponent of the second amendment.
That being said, I'm also a proponent of owning guns legally, and the people who do own them should take proper care of them, and ensure that they don't fall into the hands of someone who doesn't.
Statistically speaking at this point, your more likely to die in a car accident or a plane crash than you are to die in a gun related accident.(Accident being the key word).
If someone is willing to obey the law of the country they are in, then I have no problem with them legally owning a fire arm, and legally using that weapon to defend themselves, where a legal defense of oneself has been qualified as "Fear of great bodily harm, or sexual penetration" (See Justifiable Homicide cases, or Use of Deadly Force)
Just my two cents though.

What boot camp are you talking about? If you mean a US Armed Forces boot camp, you did not use a handgun. That was a rifle, denoted by the fact that it's a whole lot longer than a handgun and won't fit in your pocket. In fact, I call BS on your statement in general, because in any sort of "boot camp" where you train with a weapon, you know darn well what that weapon is because they drill it into your head. Heck, it's been 20 years and I can STILL recite all the statistics for the weapon I used.
I believe he was asking not about whether or not it IS legal, but whether it SHOULD BE. And yes, he's American and I believe he's quite familiar with his rights.
Not sure how it is in the states, but I'd assume just as here when it comes to the army you do a lot of dry firing, heh and on that note foxy is right, when your using a firearm in training, weather it be a boot camp or not if you are using live rounds you have it drummed into you what exactly you are firing.
In Australia when it comes to any law enforcement using any firearms they can only be discharged when there IS A REAL AND IMMEDIATE THREAT TO LIFE, Otherwise no shooting heh, that being said this is something I agree with and is something I have accessed every time I've drawn my firearm.
Safety comes First, and with proper knowledge having a Firearm is a lot safer then not having one.
