The Roswell incident is as much a conspiracy theory as 12/21/12. Like the latter, there's a noticeable lack of conclusive, accurate, or credible evidence to support the claims.

People will believe what they want to believe. And when they believe something to be true, they'll claim every black cat, 13th Friday, and funny-shaped cloud has something to do with it.

The US government doesn't control world-wide media. And I don't believe the government of every country in the world are secretly in kahoots with one another, either. Even if they were, they'd have to be pretty talented to cloak a massive space object coming right at us from our sight, because I assure you anyone with a telescope (or the naked eye eventually) is going to notice something like that.

With that said, I'm sure the US government does keep things from its citizens. However, I don't think they hide aliens or massive space debris so much as... say, experimental military technology they don't want the whole world to know about before it's ready to be employed.

If aliens were as common and frequent as everyone makes them out to be, I think it would be quite honestly impossible to keep them a secret. Don't you think it a little odd that, despite hundreds or possibly thousands of supposed UFO sightings, and thousands and thousands of years of supposed contact, not once has there ever been one conclusive bit of evidence to prove it?

I love conspiracy/doomsday theories and conspiracy/doomsday theorists (sarcasm). They can select out bits and pieces of things that they don't understand and add them to their theory of preference and say "Look! Look at all this proof!" when all they have is some vague and unrelated bits and pieces that require a certain amount of faith on their parts to accept.

I don't want to get religious at all but there is an old saying that as I grow older tends to make more sense to me. It is this:
When you stop believing in God, you start believing in anything.
Personally I would change the word "God" to something like rational scientific methodology, but that's just me. Sorry mods, no more religion from me.

Will the world end in 2012? The scientist in me says I don't know. The logician in me says it is highly unlikely.

That old map of the world was Chinese, by the way. I remember reading about it's making some time ago. It was made by one man who was an incredible navigator for his time, as I think it was made in about the twelfth century or so. Personally I don't think it adds anything much to the OP's arguments but it is an incredible document, just because of the time it was made and the implications of that.

Having dealt with a few conspiracy/doomsday theorists in the past, I know that there is no way to sway the view of the OP because what they believe is based on a sort of faith and that is not going to be swayed by rational argument.

Just don't leave your Christmas shopping until the last few days in 2012 I think, because a fair few people may be doing the same.

raster, i dont believe in the super natural.... im a guy who doesnt believe in things unless he has proof and/or see's for himself... ufo's... no i havent seen for myself, but theres evidence, the fact that all these theories are out there... i dont believe that some person somewere started saying "UFOs" and all of a sudden, the world knows about them.. these stories must have started somewere, from some hard fact... yes, over the time stories change a little but the main fact is still within the story... aliens to me arent supernatural because theres billions and billions of stars out there, so many solar systems... it just seems too conceded to me to think that we are the only species in the universe...

back to the topic... would something happen on dec. 21 2012? i bolive theres too much things pointing toward that date to ignore it... something out of the ordinary is gonna happen, we will only find out when/if it happens..

Gold trinkets were found in an area covering Central America and coastal areas of South America, estimated to belong to a period between 500 and 800 CE, but since they are made from gold, accurate dating is impossible and based essentially on stratigraphy which may be deceptive. However, we can safely say that these gold objects are more than 1000 years old.

The second pic looks to be from the Americas, probably Olmec or Mayan as it carries the same characteristics as many South American art from those civilizations. The first picture everyone says represents airplanes, or archeologists believe they represent birds. I always thought they looked like fish.

Now, I still don't know what connection you are trying to make with these pics, ufo's and spacemen building the pyramids with the year 2012. You keep bouncing all over the place but really aren't making any connections for anyone else to actually grasp at. I personally fail to see what these pictures, and gold trinkets have to do with 2012.

Not to get off topic, but there is a picture from the 1800's of a UFO. Looks like the same design that was photographed in Pensacola, Florida about 20yrs ago. Sort of a teacup like design. But that's besides the point lol

The problem isn't that we're necessarily the only intelligent lifeform in the universe, it's that the universe is so massive that the odds of finding other life is around the odds of two grains of sand from opposite sides of the planet meeting one day.

Airplanes were modeled after birds. Birds have been around longer than we have. Many ancient cultures gave their gods animal forms, including bird shapes (IE; a hummingbird was a symbol in Aztec faith, I believe for Huitzilopochtli).

how i started talkign abt ufo's having to do with 2012... i said, maybe the ufo's had made their way and helped the mayan civilization in their astronomical stuff.. then they left, leaving a calendar pointing to the day they would return... again, i said maybe lol.. so it aint going off topic... its yet another theory

Good point, Rodri. And abracax too, since he said the same. When I thought 'fish', I thought a goldfish or something, and didn't quite see it. But with a flying fish, I do see a resemblance.

Either way, both birds and flying fish precede airplanes. I think it's safe to say nature beat civilization to the punch on the whole "wings = fly" idea.

Check my original post about the Mayan calendar. It simply marks the end of a calendar cycle. It's no different from December 31 being the end of our calendar, or 999 being the last year of a 1000 year cycle.

Like I said, it's hard for me to research it without knowing what it is, where it was found, who made it, and et cetera. It's easy to just take a random item with no known background and make speculations on it. I could take a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figure and swear up and down it's a modeled off a real creature.

I'm worried about 2012, but in no way do I give a crap about what the Mayans said would happen. They lived hundreds of years ago, and have no way of knowing what would happen hundreds of years in the future.

The way I see it, there is a huge chance that there will be a nuclear catastrophe sometime within the next fifty years. More than likely, it will be within the next twenty, or even the next ten years. With all of the paranoia about 2012, it's plausible that some person, possibly anyone from a lone-acting terrorist to the leader of Soviet Russia, would launch some sort of nuclear strike, putting into action a massive chain reaction.

But that's just one possibility.

Really, it's also entirely possible that when the Mayans said "end of the world" they really meant "end of an age." The birth of a new age would certainly be a date that someone might try to predict.

the mayans did NOT say anything...
they simply made a calendar which ends in 12.21.12 .... theres no written manuscripts about anything happening... the theory of world destruction came from many different sources, some from mayans, but they never said "world ends in this day" they simply made the calendar, our job is to find out why it ends wen it ends.. a part of their culture said that at the end of every cycle, there will be rebirth to the world... u cannot have rebirth without death... and thats how the doomsday theory from mayans started... but theres still many other sources which point to that date...

my personal most believeable sources of 2012 are the mayan calendar and the i Ching... the rest are partially believeable to me

The Mayans never said it was the end of the world. They just stopped their calendar at a certain point, much like how we tend to end every calendar on December 31st. There is no significance to December 31, no catastrophes, no historic phenomena, just... the end of one year to mark the beginning of the next.

I never meant that they literally said anything. You're reading too much into my post. I simply meant that there's a possibility they ended the calender in 2012 for a reason other than a cataclysmic event.

either way, lets say ure right abt mayans just ending their calendar like we do, the next viable source is the i Ching... seperate civilizations, very different and unique in their own ways, separated by thousands of miles of sea.. both point towards the same date.. are we going to die in 2012? i dont kno, is something big going to happen in 2012? something that will change lifes on earth as we kno it? i believe yes... why? because i think theres way to much pointing towards it to ignore it... and wether theres going to be a polar shift, a solar flare, massive earthquakes and tsunami's, ufos revealing themselves to the world again, or simply, another day for christmas shopping, we ought to find out on that date.. but one thing is for certain... this date is nothing like Y2K because Y2K was about internet and computer shut downs... which was real, just a mistake by programmers.. nothing pointed to Y2K like they are pointing towards 2012

There was a power outage in my town almost exactly at midnight the night of the supposed "Y2K." It scared the crap out of us, but nothing bad happened. I'm guessing that's going to be pretty much the worst case scenario for 2012, just a couple of power outages across the country, maybe a few hundred people dying, several robberies and murders, and one or two small earthquakes.

Yeah...just like what happens every other day of the year.
