Personally I prefer the Lycan approach to Werewolves. I've never seen any of the Twilight saga and don't plan on. From what I've seen though, they just look like underwear models who can turn into big dogs and bark.

Just so everyone knows, Vampires can turn into wolves, too. So this only proves that Vampires>Werewolves.

Also, Twilight werewolves are much closer to the plain werewolf then Twivamp to vamp.
In Twilight the Native American tribe which Jacob is part of believes they are descended from wolves. In the old times, warriors would be born with the ability to transform into oversized versions of said wolves. In Modern Twilight Times, this X-gene is only activated when Vampires are in the general area.
The Werewolves in Twilight were specifically engineered as vampire hunters, rather then the monstrosities of other myths, and it was something you were born with not a virus like lycanthropy.
Some vampires are said to have the power of shapeshifting. Just because the old black and white movies commonly used a bat, does not mean that is the only form available. The vampire could choose the appearance of any number of animals, and quite often the appearance of other humans.
