Age II Beginners Overview
Age II Beginners Overview
This is for INEXPERIENCED players who are new to the game. This is not for players who have gamed on Age I nor for advanced Age II players.
The purpose of this guide is to help inexperienced players build up nice and strong so they can compete with stronger players later in the game. This guide will not cover many technical aspects but is designed to help new players understand the bigger picture so they do not get discouraged and quit.
Note: If you DO NOT want the cities you work hard to build up destroyed by others, then be sure to play on an Age II server that does not allow the capturing of player made cities. Be sure to play on an Age II server that allows you to play strictly in colonize mode if you choose to do so.
Strong heros as well as being able to produce lots of troops within a short period of time are the key to being a strong player. First step is to get your title up to Baron so you can build at least 4 cities. Second step is build up all of your 4 cities. Third step is to build up your heros. DO NOT worry if a stronger player colonizes you. Just keep building up your cities. This will take you 1 month or many months depending on how much time you put into the game. During this build up process keep your gates closed at all times. Do this by clicking on your Rally Spot and making sure that the ?Open Gates to Fight? box is NOT CHECKED.
First, follow these 33 steps to reach the title of Knight:

Once you reach Knight you can build 2 cities. Build these two cities ASAP with the following structure:
7 cottages
16 barracks
1 of every other building
NO WAREHOUSES
18 Farms
9 saw mills
9 iron mines
1 quarry
Quarries produce stone. But you can also acquire stone by building a market place and BUYING stone from the market. This method is better. If you do not have enough gold to buy stone, simply sell some other materials first to get more gold.
If you want to know what each building does or what it's purpose is you can find out by reading the building description in the game. Or you can ask your alliance or the forums. Later in the game as you advance some buildings will become unnecessary.
Building your Academy is important. It will allow you to "research" specific things that will help you advance in the game. It is a good idea to build a level 9 Academy in each city and "research" each item in the academy up to level 10 EXCEPT for Privateering and Stockpile.
For every title advancement you get to build one additional city. Each player can build 10 cities max. That means there are 10 titles you can acquire. To learn how to build a new city please ask the forums or your in-game alliance if you have one.
Next, build lots of warriors in both cities. You will need thousands and thousands of warriors.
Next, follow the Quests > Promotion to get your title up to Baron ASAP. This will require you to ?hunt? or ?farm? for the medals required to reach that title. If you do not know how to do this then please ask the forums or your in-game alliance. You will need to use lots of warriors to farm/hunt for medals. So start hunting for medals AFTER your initial two cities have been built up.
Once you reach Baron you will be able to build 4 cities max. At this point you will be able to build 2 additional cities. Build the 2 additional cities all at the SAME TIME and the exact same as your first two. By building the additional 2 cities at the same time you will maximize your efficiency. Basically you can build 2 cities in the same time it takes to build 1. For example, Townhall will take 3 hours to upgrade. Well, if you upgrade Townhall in 2 cities at the same time then they will ALL finish within 3 hours.
Once you have your 4 cities built up to level 9 everything you will be ready to get serious. At this point you will be able to produce lots of troops in a short period of time as well as begin farming for resources which is key to growth. Ask the forums or your in-game alliance about how to farm effectively. Also, ask the forums or your in-game alliance about how to produce troops by setting your production rate to 0, training them, then setting production back to 100%.
As troops finish training use the troops to attack Level 5-9 Barbarian cities. This will ?level up? your heros. In your feasting hall only keep 1 political hero and 3 attack heros. Fill up the rest of your feasting hall with ?junk? heros. You will invest LOTS of time leveling up your politic and attack heros. You do not want another player to capture them. This is why you want to keep your feasting hall filled with mostly junk heros so the chances of a stronger player capturing one of your good heros is greatly reduced. To learn how to level up your heros as well as apply special hero gear please ask the forums or your in-game alliance.
During your buildup process your cities will more than likely be colonized. Being colonized means that another player has SOME control over your cities but not enough to really hurt you that much. The player who colonized you will take a portion of your resources and troops. But do not be alarmed. Just keep building up and prepare to rid yourself of them AFTER you have your 4 cities built up and can produce lots of troops.
Once you have your 4 cities at full operation and can mass produce troops in a short period of time, you will be in a position to rid yourself of the oppressor. To do this you will need to ?Uprise?. Ask the forums or your in-game alliance about how to uprise. Before you uprise be sure to build up your wall defenses. If your uprise is successful then you will be free of your oppressor and they cannot take portions of your troops and resources anymore. At this point you will be in a position to properly defend your cities from players who want to colonize you. To learn how to properly defend your cities please ask the forums or your in-game alliance.
At this point you can fly on your own and will have probably learned enough in the building and hero leveling process to be a serious contender in the game.
