Move out most of your meat, those will be killed anyway. If you do the round-by-round, you should always be able to prevent bally-archer tradefire (by leaving the right layering), not much you can do against pults I believe.
You basically want to have this happening:
3700 A. ballys
1500 D. archers ---> 3700
what no one else has a good way defend against mechs
mrwolf it looks like you're looking for an easy answer, there is no easy answer for this one. Doing the round-by-round is the only thing you can do here.
woldere do you have an excel chart that you use to do round by round?
if i can't find one ill make one but itd be great if there was something out there that i could use that already has the tech bonus, range bonus, and base speed/range already there
using that + hellfire's damage chart i could really figure things out quickly

mech ballista hits are easy to defend against lol
defending archers outrange attacking catapults all you have to do is take out all layers and get 5k's up and a ton of straight archers, enough to 1-shot the attackers, and you will win easily without losses

Archers are good, just need to be careful of the trade fire.
Ballista only are probably the best. The numbers needed are dependent on your hero. If they don't send rams, it gets harder. Each situation is different.
My post is being reviewed due the the link to another post. Why they would need to review those I don't know. External sites yes, but other forum post dunno. Evonyurl seems to pass there rules too. Hence the possible future 'double post'.

Interesting one there, so if they do send those rams its worth it to reduce the archers enough even if you can't 1 shot the pults then?
I assume the reason for only 100k archers was so that you could 2-shot the rams?
It looks like it took 2 rounds to kill the pults which is why there was tradefire and you lost some archers.
But, adding more archers would have killed the rams in 1 shot giving tradefire on both rounds with the pults.
Did I understand what happened correctly?
That is also my guess Vadan. Defender got a free hit on both the ballys and the pults. The surviving pults took out those archers, the ballistae most likely got 1-shot.
2 reason. At the time, I did not have time to run all the numbers, but I know 100k would at least take out a lot of them.
I was worried about 1 shoting the rams. It would have been very bad. So I took the min approach.
With the balls in the back, even if I lost the 100k Archers, the balls would have remove the remaining. And if even if somehow I really messed up and the balls ended not killing them fast enough and died, the few remaining would have died to the ATs. So I move my layers, and my other 100k Archers out 15 seconds before the hit. Recalled them so they would return 5 seconds after.
So with the troops at hand, even a worst case scenario... I won. The only down side is my opponent now has a much lower food upkeep. My honor score is so messed up now, it is a non-issue. 10% for life I think now.
I found another post relating to this topic about 2 days ago and tried it out on three attacking ballista waves of 70k. Before these three another three were sent that pretty much wiped me out, so i asked the attacker to send once more and he did. The reports:

This is a good defense, but makes the defender very vunerable to SB, to combat them, the post i read suggested a large number of trans to protect the ballistas. I am thinking with more pults, the defender could also take out a full mechs wave, but havn't experimented with that much. Here is the post i got this information from:
