Are we getting pop up ads now or do I have a virus? I just saw a pop up ad for discount evony coins.
I have heard of that pop up. But, only a few people are getting it. I have not seen it myself. If it was a legit offer, I would think everyone would get it. The fact that very few people are getting it, makes me think it's a scam malware from some site visited by a few Evony players. (maybe that coord site)
It COULD be an offer that only pops up for their best customers. Like people who have spent $X or more. But, I would think there would have been an announcement on the forums or an in-game mail, if that was the case.
Until Evony says something official, my advice is to... NOT TRUST IT!!!
edit: Evony has said something official...
It's real! :cheer:
Just to add some clarity, this is not a popup. Its impossible for any sort of malware to create boxes within a flash client. If it was a new window opening, then you should be concerned. We're never going to announce our advertising campaigns. That's just silly, and no one does it.
could you possibly clarify further... is this a legit evony marketing strategy? or should we be ignoring it
Ok, I feel somewhat better now. I already spend plenty on the game. This may become annoying.
You are correct that companies generally do not pre-announce advertising campaigns, however when the ad campaign begins, it is announced.
I've worked in the retail sector in several different capacities. When a print advertisment goes into the newspaper, it is available to everyone who receives the newspaper. In three separate companies that I've been involved with, 2 of which were competitors, the ads were also placed on boards at the front of the stores.
Further, when I was actually working the sales floor, if I was working on Sunday, the day the ads ran in the paper, I was also tasked with the responsibility of making sure that all shelf signage reflected the correct pricing. This would include taking down signage from the prior week's advertisment, putting up signage for the current week's advertisement, and also spot-checking my entire department for correct pricing. I generally got in early enough to go through most of the department, which was more than "spot-checking". This was done to make sure that all customers were receiving the same pricing structure.
Since some, but not all, customers are receiving these discount opportunities, it causes many questions. These questions could've been avoided by issuing a game-wide system mail this morning and/or by making sure that everyone received an opportunity for participating in the ad campaign.
Is this the ad you mean?

I got that add today so I myself was wondering if it was real or not still dont know if it is or not.
The offer right above Elusive death is indeed legitimate offer of coins, as clarified by Rota and dawn.
My Lord, this is an awesome deal you should come take the chance my lord.
I would spend 105$ on Evony if they would send me an Evony hat and T-Shirt
Dawnseeker can I borrow your evony hat?
Dawn - the popup won't click in Chrome - or it wouldn't for me. I wrote to customer service asking how to take advantage of it, but they said "sorry you didn't get it".
I haven't seen the pop-up since and I'd like to give Evony more of my money. Can you tell me how I can take advantage of this "sale" - given that the one popup I received didn't work?
Try mozilla firefox to see if that works then.

Though chrome is usually perfect.
how come everybody doesn't get this pop up dawn? not that i want it lol but why only give it to some and not all? it gives people a small financial advantage over the money spenders who didn't get it.
That's weird. I'll let them know it didn't work for you. Is anyone else getting this error? If so, please let me know what browser you're using, and make sure you have the latest version of flash. I'm pretty sure everyone will have a chance more than once.
I want one first. :D
so you wont answer my question then?
Pretty sure?
I'll test the latest flash thing for you. That is a valid possible reason why I didn't see it, but I'm using the old flash version to make the chat window less jumpy because you all have not really fixed that issue.
Edit:
IE 7 with Flash 10.1.85.3 (latest flash version) did not make the advertisement appear.
Firefox 3.6.10 with Flash 10.1.85.3 did not make the advertisement appear.
My Firefox installation clears cache and cookies upon browser close, so that troubleshooting step has been done as well.
Statement: Everytime the $5 offer is renewed, we all recieve a system mail, that is sent to the entire server.
Question: Why can the same not be done in this instance?
Statement: Not Everyone can avail of this offer, as not everyone gets the popup. Less than half of the members in my alliance have the option of availing of the offer.
Question: Where's the fairness in that?
Question: Does the offer of $65 for 800 game coin also come with the evony happiness chest and a key to open one of the 600 evony happiness chests I already own?
To me it seems we are exchanging 150 game coins for 2 free evony happiness chests and 2 keys to open 2 more happiness chests. So I ask myself this question: Is it worth it?
Can someone in evony please clarify all this for us? I think all paying customers would appreciate that much.
To expand on what you're asking, I think a pre-notification of the start date of an advertisment and the contents of the advertisment is not what people are asking for in this instance. It certainly is not what I am asking for, as due to my former retail experience, I know that is not industry-standard.
What could've been done, however, would've been a system mail like this:
Also, a link to a "mockup" ad, with a sample image of what a theoretical advertisment might look like, with "EXAMPLE" or "SAMPLE" watermarked into the image to give a clear indication that it was not a real advertisement could've been done. That still would not have disclosed the specifics about the ad campaign, but would've provided enough disclosure so that people wouldn't be confused when the ad campaign kicked off.Quote:
Dear customers,
In the coming weeks, we will be using a new advertising strategy. Offers may come as a system mail or as an in-game window. If you see an in-game window, please do not be alarmed.
[insert whatever positive marketing-related closing remarks]
As for my account, I still have not seen this ad show up for me, so even if there was an announcement like what I just described, I'd still be left feeling that I was not valued enough as a customer to receive the sale offer, and thus it would work as a disincentive, which I would guess they wouldn't want to alienate customers...
Who gets it and why not is not an important question at all.
How do I avoid the stupid thing popping up EVERY damn time logging in?
is that evony the walls r weird, I have never had that ad before probibly cos I have never baught cents must be cos u have baught a load of cents
Do you understand how your two sentences are in total opposition to the other?
If who gets the deal and why they get it is not important, and you're the one getting the deal, and you want it to stop, then you are asking that you don't get the deal. However, if you never got the deal in the first place, then you wouldn't be asking the second question, which means understanding who gets it and why is actually important...as there are likely people that feel the direct opposite of you, that were going to make a purchase and now they see that some people get better deals than others and want to know how they can get in on the better deal.
Confused yet? I am.
This is another untested or minimally tested function that is probably "not as they intended" for it to happen. I say "probably", because they might actually have the opinion that offering the deal to rotating groups of people, for example, everyone with email addresses starting with letters M through Z in one promotion, and letters A through L in a different promotion, then attempt to gauge which promotion sold better. At this point, it's all speculation as to why some get the advertisement and some do not, which makes the whole campaign an ineffective marketing communication, as there is more confusion and customer upsetment happening than I'm sure they'd like for there to be...
You'll get the pop up if you're not spending enough money.
I just downloaded Chrome and flash is built in. I've logged in on firefox and IE since then and I've only seen the pop-up once in over 24 hours.
Can't we just get a link or an email that allows us to go to the website to order? It's a little silly to make your customers work this hard at giving you their money.
That in and of itself is rather :dizzy:
If someone is spending money, most places offer special pricing to those people too...
At any rate, I haven't spent anything since July of 2009. Some that have spent more recently and more cummulatively than I have (at least based on the frequency of the $30 package mails) have seen it. On a different email account that I used to keep Age II games separate from Age I games that has never had any money spent on it, I also do not get the advertisement.
I have no idea what the criteria is to be on the discount list...
It's a way to try and get those who aren't spending money to spend some. It's something a lot of companies do.
My girlfriend and I use the same cell phone network (both Pay As You Go). She tops up about ?10 a week while I only top up about ?10 every 6 months.
I'm always getting txt's for special offers from the phone network (spend X and get so many free txts) while my GF doesn't get any.
(Why's this forum replacing the GBP sign with a ?) ?
Dawn:
I've finally got the popup again... I have captured a screenshot and attached the image. When I click on the *blank* spot on the right, it takes me to the normal order page and there's no option for any of the "special" prices on that page.
How does this special work?
Please help! Thank you :)
I'm not sure if it was supposed to give one but I never got one with the one I bought. Basically they've disguised a deal that ends up not being a deal at all. I'm happy to withdraw my statement if they end up addressing this, but as it stands, I'd say their latest "deal' is just another rip-off.
I paid $150 dollars for the deal for 1500 cents that was supposed to be $105, i was charged the same amount and never received my extra coins. This is unacceptable.
That is the link i clicked for the "savings"
http://pay.evony.com/index.do?PageMo...user=690171630
For the money i have spent, i really dont wish to have to contact support and drag this out, please make people aware that this deal is NOT working right now, DO NOT CLICK AND BUY THIS PEOPLE, I DID NOT RECIEVE THE PROMISED COINS
Running Firefox. I get the Pop up WITH the Accept Discount button. I click accept. It re-directs me to shop BUT the Discouted packages NOT in shop. I couldn't buy the $35 package So I bought the $5 and a $30 hoping that it was some bad discription like in the past but no good.
As Far as I know the option for the Packages are not in the shops yet :(
I got the popup, but neither of the two buttons were labeled. I clicked the bottom left hand one, nothing happened. I use Chrome.
Oh, I just saw the pic on the first page here. Apparently I clicked the 'skip' button, not that I could tell, as there was no text on either button.
Too much there guys. In game pop ups now, too much.
Still no answer to this?
Surely someone at Evony can respond to this... how about a note telling us where to go to get help?
Never had this pop up
