The reality of army caps being necessary
There really does need to be a maximum size of army. yes, I'll be flamed mercilessly for this statement, but it's the lesser of two evils.
If we allow unlimited growth, the people who signed up in the first week will automatically win, short of some colossal failure on their part. Now that might be great for them, but the other 95% of the game will quickly get frustrated at the absolute lack of opportunities for advancement. There will be almost zero turnover and the game will be stale for the top players too... Ask yourselves this: With no up and coming challengers, how long will you be entertained by farming with zero risk? That's essentially simming.
With a cap in place, the top players will have to constantly be on guard. Newer players will have some chance (for the capable ones, at least) of getting to the upper tiers of the game. In this situation, the best players with the best strategies will be at the top, as opposed to those who happened to start earlier than others. I really think this is far more exciting and interesting, as there's something of an incentive for new players to join.
It all comes down to who deserves to be on top; the people who happened to start first or the people who currently play the best. And yes, if you feel you fit into both of those groups, you should have nothing to worry about :P
