Do you think they would accept immigrants there? If they don't mind getting someone who isn't Mexican in their police force, I might go over there once I hit 21 and get my concealed weapons permit and apply for a job. Sounds like steady work.

Steady work for a very short time.
I'd suggest that legalization - with sharp regulation and quality control, plus of course massive taxation and education - may be the best solution here. But that's for another thread.
I'd like to mention that I'm disappointed, people. We've got some excellent minds in here, and (I think) only japanpimp managed to post a serious response.
This is a scary situation, and it's got far too immediate and practical an application to North Americans (and several others!) to be considered a political issue, in my opinion... though of course politicians will try to get as many miles as possible out of it. Still, this is a real issue, and while the politicoes may want it, I say they can't have it. Let's solve it right here.
Well, obviously the police are under equipped and under trained. They don't even have vests and they don't get issued enough ammo to train with. If they wore full body armor, trained regularly and carried shotguns and M14s like our cops. They wouldn't be so easily murdered.
I am pretty sure with my guns, my regular practice with them and the body armor I bought from a surplus shop, I would be better equipped and prepared to handle their duties then they are.
I agree that poor equipment and training makes the job really hard. But it should not be reason for them to avoid their sworn duty to protect the people. But I am with you on this... if I was an officer I would want at LEAST the same level of weaponary and training that the offenders have.
