Ideal Survival Shelter
For a general-purpose survival shelter (bomb, zombie, nuclear, etc.) what would be your ideal survival shelter?
NOTE: this assumes you are a billionaire. Or not, the choice is yours, really.
Where: Where (either generally what terrain or a specific spot) would it be located?
What does it include: Is it a virtual city or just a temporary hold-out for the first few weeks of the apocalyptic scenario?
Who: Who would you take? Friends, any survivors, no one? Also, how many? A dozen, thousand, billion? Realistic as possible.
Supplies: What would you pack inside? Seeds for a farm or simple canned food? Guns to stave off the hordes or tools to work with?
Building Materials: Thick concrete and titanium or hardwood etc.?
Is it a) underground or b) underground or c) a mixture
If c, explain.
After all of these are written out, try to include a basic diagram or picture of it for those of us unable to picture it. Include a brief (or long) description of its characteristics.
Mine-
Where: Family land in an Atlantic Island
What does it include: Underground Sickbay, bunks (convertible to storage), a hidden supply room connected to another hidden room- full of batteries, fitness room equipped with weights and aerobics machines (which are secretly equipped with generators to power batteries), stable firing positions, thick steel entrance with a large concrete tower blocking access, farms outside walls
Who: My friends and their families, those I know who are honest and will work for their food, possibly some experts such as mechanics and farmers, a doctor or two if possible and those with herbal knowledge
Supplies: Water in abundance (from a river nearby which runs underground (Real!)), canned food for emergencies, seeds for nearby crops, herbal medicines from local plants, guns and ammunition for last-ditch defense, weights and machines, pool table, fusball table (sp?), replacement parts for everything, natural lubrication (as much as possible, though only for the hatch, aerobic machines and secret doors as there are no other moving objects), bandages, additional assorted medical equipment, toiletries etc. any personal items brought or requested by any inhabitant.
Building Materials: For rooms, spray on concrete for walls and floor, for most inbetween routes (hallways etc.) large corrugated pipes are used. EXCEPTION: For the hatchway between the Sickbay and the Fitness room, spray on concrete is used as well as the only stairwell in the entire complex.
c) Mixture- Above ground crows-nest tower, 20 feet tall, concrete with titanium skeleton. Small farms are above-ground as well. Excrement is composted above ground along with all dead plant-material. (Note, however, that all excrement is generously coated in dead plant-matter due to its high-protein levels.) Also, several chickens and a few pigs are kept for additional food (and their excrement works well as composting). Main facility, however, is underground in case any locals or raiders attack our facility. All farms are replaceable, and pigs and chickens can be brought into the tower and down into the facility from there. Even if Raiders breach our tower defenses, it is doubtful that they have anything capable of breaking into a 5 foot thick hatch made of titanium.
IMPORTANT: A large library is constructed within the supply center, decked out with survival books and entertainment books, as well as local herbal books detailing remedies from local plants. Books detailing major skills and such are also included.

a network of "tree houses" where possible woven of the living branches of the trees them selves. bark would be smoothed to prevent climbing and access only by rope ladder and basket both of which are always in the retracted position except when in use. open air for the most part there will be some, however, that are totally enclosed. large trees that can stand it will be hollowed and allow access to the underground complex from the upper story by spiral stair encased within the tree. cold storage below.
admitted: people i wouldnt mind being stuck with forever.
supplies: fresh fruit and herbs from surrounding forest; dried and preserved fruits, vegetables, herbs, meat and other food stuffs. medicinal books on herbs, preparations, procedures, and diagnosis; knives, cured wood, rope, cloth, needles, patters for making said items out of other materials; loom, drying racks, weapon racks; books on hunting, curing leather, cooking, and other useful crafts; small library of fiction; chess board; clothing, wool, fiber for making more rope; (if i think of something i've forgotten i might add more to the list)
defensible from above and mostly camouflaged from sight, we will be safe from murderers or mad men (mad zombies) on the ground. with perpetual views of the sky no one will get 'cabin fever' some few might feel cooped up but they can be trained as scouts and hunter/ gatherers and trusted with the task of leaving and returning with needed supplies.

How big is your underground base? Is it accessible from most trees or are there only a few (one or two) entrances?
Boleslav: ((Initiating Sarcasm Button mode)) Excellent. Now create a way to retain bones and healthiness up there, and you're set.

one access tree. mostly its just storage. so 10ft deep, 100ft square. sometimes utilizing larger roots that penetrate the ceiling as hangers. located a good 20ft below the surface, perhaps with a well or underground river passing through part of it. (if the river then that space is added to the detentions and crossed with strategically placed foot bridges.)

Where: Dug into the bank, beside the feeder creek for the local swamp.
What: Tunnels with rooms off to the side with hessian bags filled with leaves stung between 4 posts for beds, A dining room with enough tables and chairs to seat everybody, Outside would be a Earth bridge rigged with explosives for defence with a pipe and water turbine built into it to generate electricity and a windmill to pump water into the compound through a filter beside it plus numerous defences and a kitchen plus a long drop which has dirt sprinkled over the dirty stuff and farms between the bank and the creek.
Who: Mates, Family who else?
Supplies: whatever I can get me hands on metals, tools, materials, ammo, guns, anything I could fit in there. Plus food.
Construction: Earth, Timber, metals, concrete whatever I can get a hold of.
And A Bit of both above ground and below ground.
Map: The other areas created in the maze-y looking part are passages/ rooms.
The obstacles would be abatis in front of covered pits with wire entanglements on either side you would get over them laying down ramps that have been built move the abatis then proceed. And at the end of the pipes and at the tank would be taps for water use.

What does it include: it includes a cheese farm an a place where you can reverse cheese into mil inwhich our milk would be grey
Who: id take the forumns my family and friends but leave meg behind she is a adopted and a unloved step daughter
