jeez everyone is upset not just because of the nerf itself but moreso because of the lack of notice, if you know how much time/resources/effort/even real money long time player has put into a game play mechanic they did not know would suddenly change one day without warning. There are players who lost some k ballista as of today, did u know how long and how much it took to build them? :mad:
I don't care about thier warnings. It only proves the truth.. that the devs of Evony intend to suck as much US currency as possible from the player base as they can...
Look at the items you can purchase.. 90% of them are negated once you make Duke.. or Marquise.. why do you need to spend RL $$ for in game coin when you can just farm resources and wait out the time it takes to upgrade.
If they DESTROY the economy... and if they make it impossible to get game medals and advance(anyone who has tried to get justice medals for the past 3 weeks can attest to this fact) then you will see the INTENDED game developer business model.
The main player base unknowingly stepped outside the intended model of the game developers... found a way to advance their gameplay and become non-dependent on game coins for their gaming pleasure... thus, the corporate greed mother***3rz had to clamp down on the "EXPLOIT" to their cash-cow.... and crush the exploitation... bringing the player base back in line with being dependant on spending money for game coins to advance...
when the change to game medals didn't do it.... they nerfed respawn rate.. when that didn't do it... they made ROCKS have a ranged advantage over BALLISTA...
Want proof? when 900 ***ing rocks can take out 4000 ballista... there is your proof.

I give 10 days and the entire FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD to turn into ghost towns of barb citys that the big dogs prey upon. 20 for the FORTH, FIFTH, and SIXTH, and 30 for the rest of the servers
I give double that and none will play the game at all.

No patch notes, yes. No patch notes ahead of the patch, ouch. This is harsh treatment by the Devs.
Of course, I have no flipppin' idea what pixelated text would ahve done to soothe such shattered nerves.
As for "rocks" taking out ballistae, chalk that up as fixed. Complaining about defenses designed to take out mechs when your mechs get taken out is just plain goofy. It's a fix not a nerf.
Reality is, we cannot farm NPCs anymore to support large armies. Between the people that just sent their Ballistae on suicide missions this afternoon and the people who have 200k food consumption (people over 100k prest), this is a BAD THING and people have a right to be angry and complain.
Apply the fix to server 11 or one of the new servers where the patch isn't potentially devastating.
This game is now as bad as its customer service. Not much left to destroy other than the player base numbers...Ohh yah Working as Intended.
We lost at least 4 high level players today and when i logged on and found 3 of my ballista armys dead because i was not told of this PATCH - I almost did the same....the only reason i stayed is because my DEFENSE is maxed so i know no one can ever touch me...But since i have no players around me because they ported from me farming Them - NPCs were the only ting i was having fun attacking ....
Now the loses from even attackign a level 6NPC FAR out number the TIME/RESOURCES Costs to make the Troops you lose....
Your customer service is Horrible and now it has been implemented into a game we all like to play.
Good job - I will be playing other games as of today and our alliance off 97 members ranked 27 will basically see so many Drop outs since there is nothing to do but send your army to an instant death.....WHY SPEND ANY TIME building something that dies to a level 4 NPC ....AHAHAH You cannot even get resources now to support building anything unless oyu wait a FULL WEEK with all LEVEL 9 Resources.

I was mad before because i was waiting a MONTH for you to fix the teleport bug and Refund me for 2 adv teleports that I'm STILL WAITING FOR and now - this is the last straw.

Exactly, if people were informed of the patch before, it CERTAINLY would NOT have had an effect on complaints--in fact they may have come sooner.
But point is we would still have weeks of Ballistae. These patches need to be mentioned weeks in advance, and then calmly explained before they're implemented; not just suddenly thrust into a server
so add a modifier that improves attack of combined forces.
I.E.
1) 500 workers,warriors,pike,sword, and archers add a + W
2) 1 above plus 500 cavalry,cataphract + X
3) 2 above plus 500 ballista, transpo + Y
4) 3 above plus 500 rams,Trebuchet (catapults were the same size as ballistas and your graphic is a trebuchet) + Z
or add so much per attacking unit type and add 1% for more than 1 type AND equal to or more than the other units sent. If you send a complete complement of say 100 of each type add the heros attack rating as a bonus.
You could add 1% for every attacking type as long as the number of each type is approximately equal to half of the largest portion of any single type.
I'm sure there are better ways to do it other than making rocks and logs hit harder or scouts, cav and cataphracts useless units. Also making travel times from the rally point match what is shown in the progress bar would be a nice fix.
There are a few better options than making any 1 unit worse or better than it already is, make a balanced group better than the lopsided groups. You could even do this for defense making for a better chance to defend a city.
How about removing the instant pop time for traps and troops?

So I have come to the forums a total of two times so far. Once to just glance at them and see they exist and another to see about what was going on when I wasn't able to receive a single medal award for attacking a flat for almost two weeks.
This is my third time. So last week I sent 2400 or so ballistas at an NPC town to try and farm it and it wasn't enough, I was wiped out. Annoying, but such is the way of things when you don't seek out guides telling you how many of what to send and what kind of result to expect. Especially when the in-game exercise calculator doesn't include city defenses so it's a complete guessing game. So from this, I spent the past 8 days upgrading my barracks to be able to produce ballistas so I could farm the NPC towns near me so I could support an army to eventually conquer a level 10 NPC town. This morning, I had approximately 9400 ballistas. Time to send them at the level 9 NPC town to farm that to get the resources needed to continue my efforts of army building to conquer a level 10 NPC town.
But what happens?
I log into the game to see that the rules of the game have been changed with NO NOTICE. A notice is sending an in-game email to players that the rules are changing. A notice is giving reasonable amount of time, say 72 hours, to cancel orders put in on a game that has build and research times that last several days. What is the result of this game change that had NO NOTICE. I lost my entire army of ballistas that took me 8 days of consistent effort and farming to build and support.
Seriously, you have changed the rules of the game to stop NPC farming so people can't support huge armies anymore. I'm good with that. No problem with developers looking at a system that has a potential exploitation hole making the game easier than hoped and correcting it.
But my question is this, how are you going to compensate those of us dedicated players that spend the occasional hard earned dollars on your micro transaction business model to make up for the tremendous amount of lost time and in game power your lack of notice has caused? If we spend money on a constant game that is supposed to be out of BETA testing and the developers decide to release rule changes that have dramatic impacts on how we build our in-game strategies, tactics, and in this case, civilization, how are we going to be compensated? When companies have games that require the players to log into a server to play, those companies certainly spend some money or time to notify their user base that an upgrade is coming and what changes will come from the upgrade. Not just release it and make a passive post in the game forum that users don't need to ever look at (and have to register separately to view) a few hours later with an, oh by the way, we did this..I guess we should have said anything about it.
So to repeat, Evony development staff, how are you going to compensate me and the other players for your failure? Especially those of us that suffered heavy build time losses because of this?

The change was the right thing to do and it makes sense....the problem is the lack of communication.
They should have sent an urgent note in the system mail.

solution was simple --- communicate the change and people could have adapted.
I run small business and I tell my customers.....I can't solve a problem I am not aware of....If evony players had known of the patch they could have adapted.
You admit to the mistake, so how are you going to correct it? commnicating changes in the future, doesn't fix the damage you have caused. Your solution should have addressed the current mistake, and then discussed the changing of behavior going forward!!!!
I feel as though I have wasted a lot of time and money.

Evony Support needs to roll back the tapes and make this right with the community!! This is a sad day, ppl are doing what they need to so their troops survive. It's unacceptable to implement a change that impacts game play so much without proper notification!

It is good to know you will give us a 24h warning in the future, as that was my main problem with this change.
I agree that NPC farming had to change, but I find city defense to be too easy now. Making range better with wall level makes sense (I am 99% sure my alliance has figured out how much it increases), But it has the unfortunate effect of making defending archers and ballista almost unbeatable.
So archers and ballista are just as good as before, but the defending archers, towers and ballista are even better. Because of this I suggest you give ranged unites less accuracy against moving troops, this should weaken towers and defending archers enough to make it possible to attack others with infantry. Siege weapons should also get a (better?) bonus against the towers to make them worth building.
The other possibilities (as I see it) are to change it back to how it was or for us to play 'who wants to lose all of your armies against my towers?'

I agree, I just started playing this game and had worked my way up the rankings steadly until i am well over 100k prestige... I lost my whole army today and I am ready to be done. As the person above me said this was INTENTIONAL... and that is messed up... they basically stole from all the people who purchased items.
They did I was spending around 150$ a month since the start of server 3 and what now? I cant even feed my armies. also building lev 10 which I upgrated are useless now....its really su***. I wont spend few 100's to rebuild all the cities. Anyway its looks a good time to leave.

Can you clarify what you mean by "balanced"?
With combat mechanics as they stand, that's simply not possible. All this latest change has managed to achieve is that high level NPCs are now able to exploit, to a higher degree than players, the hopeless system that was already in place.
Try running catapults up against any opponent... see all those traps, abatis, log rolls and rockfalls that are untouched?
Doesn't the rollover for catapults say "most effective in destroying enemy fortifications"?
Sorry, but I don't see them destroying any fortification that warriors can't already destroy.
Instead of "balanced" armies, we're back to disposable (because you can't possibly feed then) warrior zerg-hordes. If you're going to take casualties no matter what happens, then what else would you suggest?

When sending ballistae against an army, 700 rockfall should not be able to take out 2K ballistae. eh? does ne1 know how to count? they drop the rocks and then pick them up and do it again? if they took out 500-900 ballistae, that would make more sense.
and if your sending troops who have LESS range than ballistae, shouldn't they get hit first? as of course they get closer quicker?
Simple warhammer mechanics would be useful.. dungeopns and dragons rules.. all these already exist...
Hey, theres an idea, for us strategy based players, introduce a war engine, where we can directly control our troops. Yes archers should have more range from higher walls, but we were already sending three times as many archers to deal with them... now what??
There are examples of these sort of games everywhere with rules that work, adopt some of them rather than trying to create new ones from scratch...
Our alliance was growing, now it will fall. the great epic battles once seen on the servers will now no longer cease to be.... defence and demolishing smaller players the way of the future? meh.
Oh, and as for not being able to create NPC's (as their production rate will now be the same a the city you abandoned) it seems the dev's want us to destroy newcomers and limit the traffic on their servers... maybe so they have less work???
If anyone knows any similar games with similar in-game communication etc. let me know.

Maybe the point was to suck whatever money they could out of folks and then nerf the game to the point that folks just packed up and left and they could take the money they've gotten and fold the game. How do we deal with these things? we can't attack players en route, we can't properly co-ordinate attacks with our allies (by choosing an EXACT time of arrival or using re-inforcing troops to send out larger waves) large cities will continue to stand, small ones will die, and we will leave... popping in once in a while to demolish any newcomers nearby.
Yes, range had to be altered for wall height, but it seems they have increased it (once again) too far in the opposite direction....
