I actually believe in some ways religion, as it gave many people meaning and a reason for life, some people even believe if it wasn't for religion the human race would have never advanced (and of course there are though who believe we would have advanced better without it, but that's a topic for another day).
Other then that i think antiseptics are also a good one, as its saved countless lives and has changed everything about medicine people know and use today.
