It was obviously a mistake by someone that issued the credit card, it wouldn't have been approved for spending.
I do not feel companies should be able to sell lists of their clients to other companies like the clothing store did. Also, I feel you should be in high school (age is 14 or 15) before receiving a credit card.
I don't think a three year old should have a credit card if they don't know how to count money.
Edit:
Thats 14/15 in the USA
Amerex already mentioned in the article that it was a mistake, and that no birth date was added to the info. While I'm not a fan of info sharing like that, at least the credit card companies do look and screen for underage/not human beings with the return of the application.
I've seen mixups where a family pet would get a cc application.
Credit card companies offer debt far too easily. We need to learn to live within our means.
NO!now prepaid ones, like Visa giftcards in order to teach your children about money and spending are fine... as long as there isnt much on them...
This is just crazy! im 16 and i had to beg my bank to give me a damn debit card so i could buy cents... :o
I don't know if it's legal or not, but I do know that many parents get cards for their kids, buy some things on them, and then pay them off soon after to help the child have a good credit score before they're out of high school.
My credit card offers me the chance to spend in a month 1/2 of my total yearly salary before tax. That's just ridiculous. I'm lucky that I was brought up my parents who were very strict with money. They taught me to save and then buy, not buy and then pay for (with interest).
That's like a bank investing in a kid for monetary gain.
Normally I would be surprised but I am not there are ten year olds that own cellphones so credit cards do not really seem too out of the ordinary..
i don't have a 3 year old... but if my 5 year old could keep track of her expense claims and file them in a timely manner... i'd get her an amex
i would, however, make sure i got the benefit of the frequent flyer miles associated with her purchases
This is crazy! definitely not...unless of course I was said 3 year old..then I'm all for it!
