I didn't want to comment the valley/troop movement fix until now, bc I thought it was worthwhile to try out what Evony considers the normal way to move troops. However, after using this for 4 days, it's pretty clear that this is a very harmful 'fix,' and I would not be surprised if this discourages (especially) smaller and mid-size players from participating by increasing the resource costs and time required to play.
This fix stifles ability of smaller players to attack other cities by costing so much food and time to transport troops. Today, I moved several million troops 16 miles to a launch point. Doing this took about 40 minutes due to catapults, and the 10-wave limit from my rally point. It also cost about 200 million food total. Now, I know I have the food to move troops that way, but that's a lot to many other players, and frankly, diminishes their ability to play and compete much more. Just forget about transporting mechs to your war city 2 states away (phew, glad I have instant pults... no problem here).
Slower troop movement also limits all players by dramatically increasing the time it takes to set up for an attack. Let's be honest, this game takes a lot of time, probably way too much time for a game; but valley troop movement reduced the amount of time we needed to play. It now takes almost 10 times longer (as with catapults) to move troops and transport resources, so people really have to think twice when considering whether they can log in and play for a few hours, or whether to use that next port.
The real effect that has is to alter the cost/ benefit analysis that we face when deciding whether to play war or stay home. If people have to consider blowing through a hundred million food just to possibly attack another player, it takes a lot more to look like a good investment of time and effort. Therefore, it seems like this change will just encourage people to farm rather than fight. But wait.. evony really wants us to fight, right? Because when we're not just playing farmville, people actually spend money to buy teleports, truces, and escape-holidays. Sadly, this change only stifles the competitive spirit of the game.
Please show me where I said any of those things. I may have gotten a bit irritated at Despicable, but that was after being called a cheat. I still never called anyone names. That just isn't my style.Quote:
...but you think it's just peachy keen to lob "noob", "putz", "loser", "slacker", etc, etc, etc, around because you had the upper hand due to exploiting something?
That is almost the same thing, but lets say that there was a sign saying that all the scrap in the yard was being given away for free. What if the defendant saw the sign, and was collecting his free scrap, but he wasn't entering the property through the gate(all the way on the other side of the property) but rather through the hole in the fence, so it was much closer and quicker. Do you think the jury would still have found him guilty?Quote:
The defense attempted to say that the defendant didn't know that the items were claimed by someone else, even though they had to go through a fence to get to them. The defense also argued that the defendant didn't run from the police, indicating that they didn't think they were doing anything wrong. The defendant never took the witness stand in the case though.
The defense then argued that this person only wanted to take them to a scrap facility and get the scrap value for them rather than what they were actually worth to the company. That was the difference between Petit and Grand Larceny.
If you have to use analogies, can't you find one more fitting to the situation?
The more I think about the case, the more I remember. They had entered during a time when there was a truck that had come there to drop off some other items in another location of the facility and the gate had been left open. The defendant claimed that the open gate and the overall look of dilapidation of the facility was his "sign" that the stuff wasn't being used by anyone and was free to be taken.
OH! One other thing that I just remembered... There was a "No Trespassing" sign posted...in plain view from where they would've entered the gate, but they still decided that the open gate was a "FREE STUFF HERE!"
Look, you're going to argue your side until you're blue in the face, and probably after that happens too. This boils down to a fundamental difference between your view of what's right and wrong vs. mine. We're never going to convince each other. I'll bring up examples, you'll refute it by adding in "what if" everywhere. Your perspective is that since the gate was open, it was "a sign" that stuff was being given for free. It just doesn't work that way. You're going to argue that it does, and this will go on and on and on. Now that I added the part about the No Trespassing, you'll say something about "well, there was no sign like that in this case, so what if that sign wasn't there?"
I've been told to "get over it" basically. You all need to do the same. You reaped a lot of benefit from it. Whatever your reason, you can't debate that you benefitted. It is immaterial if 1 billion people knew how, and that the remaining 5.7 billion on the planet were just uninformed, you milked the teat dry.
If the company decides to yank away other things that are not anywhere near as controversial with the same claim that they're not what they intended, then I'll be happy to join hands with you in protest. I already do that with the NPC purges, but I get beat up on by people for that too, telling me to "get over it" and just make more..
So, until then....
so, they fix it so people can't move their troops and now have cleared lvl5 and lvl10 npc's so they can't even feed them? What is that about?
Way to go, yet again, evony for clearly intentionally trying to drive people away from the game. Round of applause to you. Again you have proven that you make idiotic decisions.
I still do not understand how anyone can be calling this an "exploit"...this was written into the game just like all the other aspects of it were, and has been there for a very long time. The only reason it has been "fixed" now, fixed apparently being a very loose term at evony, was because evony found out that they would make more money if we no longer had the ability to use it.
What will be next from evony? Who knows...maybe they will "fix" the bug in npc 10's that gives your heroes 1.8 million experience and make it only 180k xp. I mean, obviously this has to be an exploit, right? Because without that it would be impossible to have instant scout or higher heros without buying on-wars. haha.
So no, the valley transfer was not an exploit. It was just better off for evony's pockets if we didnt have it anymore. Thanks evony, love you too.
It was poor coding on their part with a side-effect they didn't know would or could happen. Just because something is possible doesn't mean it was deliberately written to be possible.
God forbid a company running only to make money actually try to fix bugs OR try to make money. Did you think Evony was started as a hobby project for friends by friends? Did you think the admins were paying server hosting costs and paychecks for coders just so they could be nice people? It's a business. It's here to make a profit.
I don't see many people at all complaining about the 0 upkeep side of it. Everyone knows that will never be returned BUT taking away the troop movement side of it was STUPID. All they had to do was switch valley ownership and send the food bill there.
No offense bud but you don't have a clue about the in game world or just plain forget. :(
Pretty soon won't have a game to run a forum for the way this is going. ;)
Edit:
Honestly, I haven't read all 167 pages of posts but did read a fair chunk of them. I used the 0 upkeep trick because it was there. It's removed and I can live with that but making this game slower and really setting smaller players up for the slaughter is foolish.
Another thing. Those people saying to others "Quit", "reset" etc.. if you don't like it." really aren't thinking things through. All it takes is a few to leave and it starts a trend and pretty soon there will be one server left with one player in each state left claiming it thier home before the evony lights go out forever. Victory? That would be one rocking WC huh?
Yeah.. and changing valley ownership and sending the food tab to the new city wouldn't eliminate "The float" as you call it and leave the troop movement aspect alone? Or better yet. Make recall universal across the board. Why would it be different speeds from a valley, reports or feasting hall?
Instead let's add a new item which acts like a bot and charge 5 cents per que per upgrade. What are the developers thinking? Usually I'd say I want what they are on but in these cases I really don't
Bottomline is removing the troop movement aspect ONLY HURTS the game. Removing the 0 upkeep limits army size a bit but in the long run that's not going to be a big issue.
