Hmmmmmmm. I hope you wouldnt be implying that you'd give away accounts mr jp :P that would just be plain illegal! *scandalized*
gotta say it, Age2 was a huge educational experience
A completely new perspective on whats possible. Even forced me to learn some game mechanics in the detail I'd never bothered. I'd recommend a bit of age2 stint to anyone wanting to experiment and learn stuff to bring back into age1. Its worth it. Its like a crash course offered and paid for by evony :P
I tried it and HATED EVERY MINUTE OF IT :(
1.A city that can't be capped
2.NO FARMS and if you create one(npc) 1 day its gone the next
3.^Got players sitting next to 1 another
4. inputs from other players please cause i know the list goes on but decided not to stay long enough cause it was a waste of my time unfortunatly i will never get those moments that i wasted of my life....I don't fell so guilty about spending my time on age 1 :) that is until there so called lastest fixes :(
On a side note if we were all forced to move to age 2 about 90 percent of age 1 would and will quit it suxs....
I know somebody in real life who plays Age2 and he was telling me that you can cap cities there now..so think that part has changed. Atlantis and historic cities look fairly interesting but Age1 was the game i love. I had decided to stay on my 3rd server for good and that would be it but just as i got to 200k mech 500k cav 200k phract Evony go and change the rules on us the the valley "fix". Whatever didnt refuge i had kill so im back to a few measly archer bows and couple scout bombs....kindergarten Evony. Really i would be better off throwing fish fingers at my enemies. So seeing as Age1 has been castrated i may take a look at Age2 but i certainly wont be reaching for the credit card like i did on Age1 as you never know what Evony will change next and Im not putting money into something like that or into a company that thinks customer service is having volunteer moderators who have no say in anything other than to censor what people speak about here. ok im gonna get off my :soapbox: now and wait for my post to be deleted by Acer:)
Hmm, was thinking of trying it out when Chamfron gets out....
You can cap cities on newer servers and that is a huge bonus
If you use facebook, you upkeep of troops will be 1/4 that of age1 (reducing farming = a plus in my eyes)
The lack of serious players is true as a generalization. Normally 1-3 good alliances will emerge per server, and one of those will stand above the rest
I like that troops aren't instant, at least in defense layering purposes, as well as the overkill rule in age2 (1 unit stopping 100k always bugged me)
Both have their plusses, and oth their drawbacks
I'm not saying i don't like layering, I'm a huge math guy in age2. I just like in age 2 they added overkill so you have to send more than 1 unit thick on layers (essentially if a stack will kill more than 100x your stack, they can hit something else in range)
I think that idea adds more skill to that aspect of the game (1 more thing to remember to look at when determining layering)
Also, I can see how losing inst troops would suck, just not a fan personally
i just opened an age2 account its far too busy on the screen there and the chat box is far too small and i hate the way you have to scroll along the resource fields ........IM ADDICTED TO IT NOW DAMN!!!!!
by drawing people away from AGEI............
Read my signature and add it to yours, show your passion for AGEI!!!!
Wow, I was trying to find a way to ridicule/mock/argue with/annoy JP about this, but it's a very good thing for you to be doing. I have some...not really problems...I don't know what, about you teaching people. But aside from those things, it's a good thing for you to be doing. I'm gonna give you some rep..for reasons unknown to myself.
If you want to hear what the things are, I can tell you, but they ARE going to be critical, and you probably won't like it.
I gave Age2 a shot when it first came out. It was appealing at first, new graphics, more involved at first.. then I deployed to Afghanistan where I have 22Kbps connection and Age2 doesnt agree with that at all. So I left Age2 and havent looked back. And seeing battle reports from Age2 showing people with 10mil+ troops in there city with barely the same upkeep I have with maybe 2mil troops in a city, and with no worry about looseing them, just ruins something for me. Sure I should be jumping at the chance to reduce my farming time down to a small fraction of the time I spend now. But shouldnt you have to work for your troops? Sure Age1 has no limit on heros and can reach insta-troop status, but look at the work put into those heros. Sure I hate farming for food and medals, but at the same time it comes with a certain feeling of accomplishment. Anyway, enough of the rant.. Age1 rocks, Age2 just.. doesnt.
I like some of the things like Historic cities and the Overkill rule in Age II.
What I hate is the user interface and the overuse of some Flash code.
Watching in Windows Task Manager expermenting with both Firefox and IE I found memory useage on my client in the browser was over 4 times higher after 3-4 hours of use. We all know Flash has a memory leak, but Age IIs client interface turns it from a leak into a torrent.
And you think Age I lag is bad... wait til your browser is taking 4gb of RAM on your system.
Other Age II things that should never be
1) Voting for Governor. So if I win a popularity contest I can turn off your Market. Bleh.
2) Historic Heroes--- Just cash for Evony, the are too heavily leaden with cash needs. Should have a free coords on the wheel or something that you can take to the in.
3) No refuged when outa food. Sorry, but Age II is a conseqence free environment to have a billion troops. You just load up the Historic city you never want to lose, and draft all you want. No consequence of not having food cep tnot attacking. Well you dont want to attack from your lil defensive fortress thats drafting left and right.
And after reading the other forum, mentoring from JapanPimp (who is proud of his "playing from a colonized position") may not be the most intelligent move a new person to Age II can make.
The best way to learn Age I or Age II, since Evony does not believe in software documentation, is reading the forums and joining a good alliance. And above all taking noone at their word, but testing the knowledge you gain. There are too many urban legends I face everyday in Age I and Age II that simply are that, legends and rumours that have no bearing on the math.
Why would they destroy age 1 thats what i dont get it makes them a ton of money i will be lost if i'm forced to go to age 2 and i spend a fair bit of money on evony i don't get why they would want to risk losing so many customers. I played age 2 when it first came out it seemed like a rushed product i haven't been back since that first impression leaves a lasting one. Age 1 forever
No thanks, no Age II for me, and if i do decide to play again, I may ask someone that knows what they are doing, not you JP sorry
thanks for the info about connection speed. crap dialup here.
i tried age 2 when it first came out
-the graphics slowed down my computer badly, even though i have a fairly good mac and somewhat fast internet
- when i tried to log out it would never let me, it kept going to a loading screen and then right back into the game and so my resources never really updated in real time
- back then none of us really had any idea of what the new items were so there was confusion there as well..
right now though i would say no to it mostly because of the loading issues and resource issues i kept experiencing, I'm hardcore age 1 but i had been willing to try age 2 - it just didn't work out for me..
What's age 2
JP an admire your effort.
Honestly, i think you teaching methods are better suited towards a totally new evonyer than I long term age I player.
Yeah, I agree. I am here to help the new and average players. Not the hard core elite few.
But that being said, old time Age I players can learn quite a bit from my Age II experience. Mainly, they will learn that they can relax and build nice and slow and steady. No more need to feel pressured to get archery level 10 ASAP or leave BP too early or scramble to build up their city/army/defenses faster than a chipmunk on fire....
I can't tell you how many Age I players have joined my alliance since April last year and were in full tilt panic/locked and loaded hot mode trying to build up as fast as they possibly could before a bigger player began to pick on them. The biggest thing hard core Age I players need to learn in the Age II Na1-19 environment is to RELAX. Build up at your own pace. Then when you are nice and big and have 9 cities kick your Suzerains butt and start fighting over some HC's... which will hopefully begin to trade hands more often.
From what i heard Japan dude doesnt like Hcs to be in one persons hands for very long
Exactly. HC's are meant to be highly contested cities that control areas or the entire server. Alliances are supposed to fight over them. But what is happening is that once they get capped from the comuter nobody fights over them mainly because they can't be taken from rivals mostly due to rampant account sharing.
But if HC's were actual "tug of war" or "king of the hill" type cities, then they would turn over now and then as alliances battle back and forth over control. But that is just no happening, again, mainly due to the account sharing. So as soon as Evony comes up with some solutions I think the Age II servers will get alot more engaging.
I've been playing on n29 since it came out now, overall. I can't say I'm that impressed.
Apart from the interface, which has been mentioned before, the resources not updating in real time and the lag... There are a few more points about Age2.
Stratagems are an interesting idea, I haven't used any myself, but they have been used against me and I've read through the descriptions (I can sympathize with anything caught by the Beauty Trap stratagem, I get hit by one of those everytime my girlfriend walks into the room... (Yes, she told me to write that (No, I will not be sleeping on the couch tonight :)))
HCs, a greater challenge than level 10 NPCs, I've refused all help by my alliance for when I take my 12, I'm going to do it myself dammit.
My problems on the other hand, I'll stick to just one though.
Colonisation used to block combat, I can't understand for the life of me, how I can't take an opponent's city because someone from his alliance has dropped out of that alliance, to colonise that city. I could understand that if the coloniser were in my alliance or even a friendly alliance, but this just seems stupid.
Sorry, make that two.
My second problem is the players.
This is a massive generalisation, and you're all more than welcome to flame me over it, but age2 players that I've seen are wankers. the sledging on age2 is appalling for a game that takes so much focus off combat, and I'm not going to get started on the unsportsmanlike behaviour I've seen over HCs and HHs....
Age2 seems alright at first glance, it could be much better though. Then again, so could Age1.
