Again, if you had read the previous posts, this is merely the straw that broke the camel's back, if you will.

When you can run even one flash server unassisted, then you can complain. You are looking to complain about anything at this point.
yeah I agree.. seems they did rush it out of beta a bit fast, and it is frustrating at times but sometimes you have to eat a little dirt to find a diamond so to speak.. try to remember they are working on it.. be it a little slower than we'd like they are making an effort at least.. which is a step in the right direction. I've played games like this for over a decade and beta tested quite a few so maybe i've learned a little patience from that but we will see a good game evolve out of this eventually. they do want to make a part two or sequel based off of the original so it does seem like they want to stick around and try to at least help the game to grow. yes they SHOULD have better PR and SHOULD announce things in advance, and as of late it has gotten a little better but all in all I don't think they were truly prepared for the amount of people they received into the game which i'm sure is hindering their ability to fix things as fast as they'd like. yes they SHOULD change the maintenance message to "usually takes 15 minutes but could take longer" JUST to appease us, but in reality is it going to stop you from hitting refresh every minute after the 15 minutes has passed? These are minor infractions on their part.. i'd be more worried about the playability (defense and attack system) then I would be over a message that is simply worded wrong. and just remember at the end of every rainbow is a pi$$ed of leprechaun that wants to bite your ankles :)
The game left beta when they decided it was time. How do you distiguish between phases anyway? Game are constantly going through development. This is a complaint thread.
maybe it's just a vent thread at this point..
semantics
Let's see the OP explain the development process.
The first comment that has actually made some sense, I do believe. Thank you for this, maybe I do lack patience. I do hope this game takes off at some point as I am quite fond of it, I can agree that they possibly underestimated the number of players would grow so quickly,(which can be seen by the numerous new servers opened) I also think that they possibly have a smaller group of techs working than they'd so like. I'm done complaining for the time being, thank you kempion for stating the obvious as you so often seem to do. I wish they would figure out some better ways to deal with issues that relate to this game. I have seen many members of my alliance quit, along with other players I'm certain, who have become fed up with how the game is run. Hopefully since the number of new players is continuously growing, they can figure out how to balance this game without jeopardizing the game itself.
Your mechanic screws up your car. You can't complain unless you can rebuild an engine unassisted.Quote:

Your computer tech screws up your hard drive. If you can dissemble/reassemble a drive then you can complain.
Your restaurant chef burned your pasta. Don't complain unless you know how to make Italian.
Let's see a person explain the engine rebuilding process.Quote:

Let's see a person explain how to cook Italian just so its Al Dente.
Oh wait... in the real world you don't HAVE to be an expert before you can complain about bad behaviors. Its only a lame excuse by boot lickers trying to distract as smoke and mirror.
and after reading probably half of kempion's posts I'm under the impression he just likes to poke where he can to get a rise out of people with the best of intentions :-P he's good at heart though.
The game is so poorly managed each and every one of you are still playing.
'Nuff Sed. Cry more.
my point was proven kempion. thank you
Notice he couldn't make any kind of response against the rebuttal of his misguided logic. So he now attacks the people and tried to change the subject. But hey, even what he just said is a foot in mouth too. Because :
The board is so filled with complaints that he can't stand, and yet he still comes here every day.
'Nuff Sed. Cry more.
actually they don't say it will be 15 minutes, they say generally it takes 15 min, but yes this can seen untruthful, as usually it's more like an hour sometimes more.. But by now we all know what to expect from serv maint ................ The adm is getting better and in time they will improve more .........
it actually state's "usually takes 15 minutes" which in reality isn't true. it should read "can take 15 minutes or longer" to rectify the lynch mob that it creates
My question still stands. Can anyone explain how a game gets developed and what seperates a game from beta and launch?
sure kempion.. the answer is COMMON SENSE. the dev's release the game when THEY feel it is ready to be launched. does NOT mean it is ready to be launched or that it is 100% perfect. MANY pc games even nowadays console games STILL have bugs and patches WELL after the release which you then need to download for the most efficient version of the game.
Go take a computer class yourself. Or ask in the Help and Question section of the forum, as you are so fond of declaring it to others to post in the correct place instead of thread jacking and troll the OP. This is about HIS choice to discuss the maint. warning, even if you'd prefer to discuss IT development cycle.
This is a dramatization:
First, somebody somewhere gets an idea.
"Hey, this would be cool."
Next, they better know what they are doing. So, they either learn how to build a game (in whatever format) or they make contacts with people in the industry. Most games stop right here.
"Man, this is too hard. I'm going skateboarding."
The few games which get beyond establishing contacts require capitalization - money.
Ao, a good designer will go out and find some, if not a lot of, financial backing. (A browser-based can literally be run by one person if they have the programming and graphic design background, but those people are few and far between.) Unfotunately, this is still not enough.
"Dude, I'm burnt out. I have to go to work at McDonalds now anyway."
Next, you either develop a game in-house (usually in a parent's basement, just so they can call themselves a game designer; this is akin to a guy with a PoS pickup truck with a toolbox calling himself a "contractor" except the contractor might actually get some work done).
"This is fun. I want to kill myself."
Assuming a "deisgner" can make contacts and secure financial backing, we move (kinda sorta - I'm leaving out some stuff because the gaming industry in one of those unique areas where every step is dependent on the company and the game) Phase I development. This is where the plans go from concept to hard copy and/or digital.
At this point, the "game" 100% written and 0% ready. (There may be many more parts to Phase I depending on a lot of peripheral details, but this dramatization is done for with brevity in mind - which is not going to happen.)
"It looks good on paper."
Enter the programmer(s). These guys want to be paid. Oops, we need a company! Ok, let's setup the compnay. Six months later, paperwork filed, accountants and lawyers retained, we can move to prgramming.
"Cheetos? You were planning on paying us in Cheetos?
Next, you will need to start constructing the underlying structure of a game: It's "engine." A browser-based game as a very weak engine compared to an MMO like WoW, but it still needs to be built, test and installed.
"Vroooom!"
now, we finally start to get to the game itself. Components need to be built, tested and installed. This is the theoretical beginning of "Beta" - even though we are already into Phase I (Alpha). Components and modules not only have to perform their tasks but they also have to get along with each other. Here is where bugs begin to show up. This is also why bugs pop up after pathces.
1011100101!!!! ("That module has cooties! ICK!")
Now, after a few months, and plenty of money spent, we move to Phase II: Playability. This is the fun part because now we are letting game testers have a preview of the final product and, inevitably, our product gets announced to the world (and our competitors who may have a better infrastructure in place so they may start developing their own version of our product and be able to release theris before we are done. Microsoft does this all of the time.)
"Thems got this. WE need this."
There can be any number of phases but the standard is usually four. The process up to this point for a brawny MMO is about a year and a half - maybe longer.
"I need some Cheetos."
Now, the financial backers start getting antsy.
"Our statistical analysis of our ROI isn't adding up. Get the product on the store shelves. NOW!"
Of course, the accounting side of our little business is going nut too.
"RED! All I see is RED!!!!!!"
Let's just say, for the sake of humor, we have a product which is "ready" to go to market. We launch.
OOPS! We need a network which can handle our demands (UMGE kinda screwed this part up if you ask me. Details, details, detials.) We also need a server bank and racks upon racks of servers... not to mention the technicians who should have been hired months ago.
"I'm not pushing a broom for six months while you all figure out what you want me to do. On second thought, if you want to pay me that much to push a broom, we have a deal!"
For brevity's sake, we just skip all of the other business-related steps. HA!
Now, we leave Beta and launch... and all hell breaks loose.
"The network is down! The servers are down! WE DON'T HAVE A CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT!!! Where are my Cheetos!?!?"
Welcome to the gaming industry.
This has been a dramatization. No technicians were actually harmed during this episode (though we tried our best.)
Edit: lotsa typos. Deal with it.
is that really how it goes?
n'ffs we really need to start implementing a consumable form of currency like cheetos.. life would be so much easier :(
That's a dramatization. Anyone who tries to follow this dramatization will go broke.
i got as far as skateboarding, remembered i was terrible at is as a child and didnt read anything else
One of the other games that I play went down for a 24 hour maintenance and ended up being down for 5 days. Maintenance is one of those things that has to be done, and I rarely see it where everything goes smoothly. It's just the way it is. Gods forbid we have to un-glue ourselves from the 'puter for awhile. :D
I'm surrounded by monkies!
You have to accept a certain amount of frustration when gaming.
Gaming monkeys .. now thats a site to behold..
