on a lighter note.....has anybody heard any reports of people surfing the tsunami waves? now that would be a gnarly ride.
edit : sorry if i offended anyone with this post, this was not my intent, just trying to lighten the mood. also lost surfers deserve our prayers too.
Yeah; apparently, a California man was lost at sea trying it. But that's third-hand gossip; all I could find was a headline.
There is, it seems, an uncontrolled meltdown underway at one plant. However, the location is such that the majority of the radioactive steam is blowing out to sea; it'll disperse before it gets nasty, in all likelihood. (That's the good part of the coastal design, as well as easy access to massive amounts of seawater. If this were an aquifer cooling system... well, I shudder to think about it.)
Considering the power of the quake (and aftershocks) and the massive damage suffered, I'm impressed that only one of the four reactors had this much trouble; more importantly, it seems that it wouldn't have happened this badly if it wasn't down for maintenance at the time.
They've been very lucky - and by extension, so have we.
On a related note: Rumor has it that the Aflac Duck has lost his voice due to the tsunami jokes made by the voice actor. The actor, unemployed comedian Gilbert Gottfried, is likely not a troll on this forum.
Only 6.2? That would have raped a 3rd World country.
It was worse because it was right next to Tokyo, one Prefecture north, I believe. Hopefully nothing worse will happen...
If anyone didn't know, Alflac is one of the largest insurance companies in Japan, which is one of the main reasons why this happened. He appologized later on his Twitter (another thing a Comedian shouldn't do: Back off on your jokes).
Eh, I thought some of them were pretty funny. I think one of them went something like "Don't get depressed if you're dumped by a Japanese girl, they're just another fish in the Sea."
Get it? 'Cause they're in water... But yeah, it's a bit too soon. Plus, it's not like other comedians don't do the same.
Wonder what Poseidon is doing right now
Iodine pills are being sent out to the Japanese people, to battle against the risk of radiation poisoning.
Potassium Iodine, as explained by heath officials, blocks the Thyroid gland so that Radioactive Iodine does not enter.
A thank-you to the doctors!
We don't need two of these threads, so I'm merging them.
