You can have corners in a round house. It all depends on how the walls are laid out. The oval office has no corners, yet it is in a rectangular building.
The maid did it. Notice the subtle change in pronoun from he/she to I in the last sentence.
"The maid said i did not kill the boy, i was sweeping every corner of the house. Who killed the boy?"
This is a tell-tale sign that the teller of the riddle knew that this person did it, and therefore set them apart.
