today i helped a kid who had a bit of bingle on his bicycle
he was twelve
when i dropped him off at his house he said "thanks sir"
polite? yes.... but also disturbing
i know i'm old.... but sir?
i still have long hair... well what's left of it.... no! not a pony tail with a bald head... shut up!
i know, he was just being polite... i'm just not used to that!!

anywho, i started thinking
how different was the world when i was twelve?

Unfortunately the major event that happened when I was 12 was Sept. 11th. But, it was also the year when Enrique got huge and we all started realizing how stupid the Y2K scare was. Oh, and Harry Potter became a movie.

Only thing I can really remember from when I was 12 was the Indian Ocean Earthquake and the following tsunami, as well as hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne; and tropical storm Bonnie.

When I was 12: Italy won their 4th World Cup (soccer), Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging and direct rule from Westminster is ended as the Northern Ireland Executive takes control of the affairs of Northern Ireland.

I was 11 in 1991. I remember a couple of things.

The "Video of the Year" was R.E.M. "Losing My Religion" although "mama said knock you out should of won.

The girl i have a crush on tells me that soviet forces storm Vilnius to stop Lithuanian independence and she is worried about her family back home. The Gulf war starts shortly there after.

The United States Department of Justice announces that Exxon has agreed to pay $1 billion for the clean-up of the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska (which ruined my school project)

Mike tyson Gets arrested, the same day The Super NES comes out in my hood! Russia falls apart shortly there after.

Magic Johnson announces he uhm.. spread his magic around to much...

And thus the "90's" begin and everyone goes around saying "Whats your problem this is the 90's now..."

i turned 12 in June 2001

-In the summer i went to Sea World and Kennedy Space center and got to see the Shuttle Atlantis lift off about a mile and a half way - (i was visiting my dad in florida)
-September 11th.. :(
-Dale Earnhardt Senior Died in February
-Jeff Gordon got his 4th and so far last championship...

-it was also the year where i dissected a frog in biology (whether i wanted to or not)

-i was finally switching over to rock music from pop music

Thomas is still a big deal, even in America. Just yesterday we took my son to A Day Out With Thomas in Grapevine, Texas. Life-size Thomas travels around the country--the kids are nuts for him, and his train rides ALWAYS sell out.

Same for me, as Nesterus and I were born within a couple weeks of each other.

On a personal note, I remember that that school year was the last of my normal school years of being an isolated, bullied, too-smart-for-my-own-good bookworm... the next year I was all that PLUS I had the title of "Seizure Girl".
