Things that Annoy You

What are some (non Evony-related) things that annoy you?

There is one particular concept in mathematics that irks me: the indeterminate form. 0/0 and 0^0. These two numbers are often classified as indeterminate, but to me it is clear that they should both equal 1.

x/x = 1. THEREFORE, 0/0 = 1.

Anything to the power of 0 = 1. Why then is it so hard to agree that 0^0 = 1? To further substantiate my point, I'll put this into the form of a logarithm.

log_0 1 = x ("log of 1 base zero = x").
log_1 / log_0 = x (Change of Base Formula)
0 / (1/0) = x
0 * 0/1 = x
x = 0

log_0 1 = 0
Ergo, 0^0 = 1

I stumbled upon an interesting thread on another forum (alas I cannot remember where it was) in which the matter of X/0 was debated quite extensively, and if I can recall it was determined that it isn't truly indeterminate, but rather stated to be so because the answer is equally as useless (infinity or something relating to it. My memory is a bit sketchy on the matter.) Of course I am certain that no-one in that particular thread were career mathematicians, but it was an interesting conversation none-the-less.

Unfortunately I cannot go into great detail on the greatest annoyances in my life, as they fall into the all encompassing scope of religion and faith, and thus cannot be discussed on this particular board. So suffice it to say that the greatest annoyance to me is the idea that can avoid all attempts to snuff it out through evidence to the contrary, and yet manages to squirm away by modifying itself, and then whose supporters have the audacity to discredit an idea that has evidence in support of it by discredited that evidence as "insufficient" or inconclusive". And no I am not talking about religion, just an idea that stems as a result of it.

2^1 = 2 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1... and so on
2^0 = 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1... and so on
0^0 = 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1... and so on

This is a simple way of explaining it.

Hmm...cats that turn on X-box 360's when I'm just about ready to fall completely to sleep, people that think that a very old joke is still funny after the first million times you've heard it, and my 3G internet connection here in the mountains! :flame:

I suppose I can add another thing to my list. James Swearingen and his music. Proclamation! Jubilation! Celebration! Exaltation! My god, when do the exclamation points end! His titles are almost as basic the keys he composes in.

((The above statement is made in complete sarcasm. I respect James as a composer, he is certainly better than I am))

This sounds alarmingly similar to my cat, except his favorite is to shove my phone off anything it's resting on or post nonsense skype messages.

I'm most annoyed by computer failures, people who can't stay in their seat on airplanes and people trying to talk to me about celebrity babies/appearances.

The media talking about these two instead of talking about stuff that really matters, or hell at least better musicians...

Another one to add to my list: nihilists; people who believe that life has no meaning. Recently someone started a giant Facebook fight on a post about the Norway attacks, saying that life goes on and a tragedy like this doesn't matter.

people who use hard words even when the situation does not call for it at all

American patriotism today. I understand patriotism in general, but thinking that your country can attack and defeat any other country without any political knowlege or knowlege of anything really ticks me off.

One person I know told me in a conversation, "If Japan were to attack us again, we'd kick they're ass with a nuke." I almost slapped him for two reasons: One, because there is practically no possibility that America will ever get into a war again with Japan for treaty reasons; and Two, because he had no understanding of the devestation that a Nuclear bomb can cause.

Oh yeah, and my Grandma's cat that licks my feet twice before biting. At least he gives me the lick-warning before he bites.

I always get annoyed when I get stuck behind people who walk really slow. Something that irritates me about them is that when there are multiple people walking side by side, they stretch across the entire pavement and can block everyone from getting past, not just me. It's very inconsiderate and they don't even seem to care.

Slow drivers in the fast lane on the interstate.

Go faster or move. It's not that all people are speed demons, it's just needed to keep traffic from jamming.

They need to do what they did in Germany. Suggest a speed limit that is safe, NOT force you to drive slow and create traffic jams. 70mph is slow to me considering the leap in technology and automobiles that have the ability to handle faster speeds and hairpin turns. Obviously you shouldn't be careless in a car not designed for it though.

If I had a vehicle like a Corvette or better I would drive it no less than 100mph while on the interstate, PERIOD

Some parts of autobahns do have speed limits not just recommendations. They are usually 100 km/h (60 mph) but most areas on autobahns do not have speed limits.

1stly i woould like to point out i'm a bit of a nutter, so no judging ;-)

1. People who tailgate but won't over take.
2. Chicks with streaky fake tan/foundation
3. Building in the wrong places in evony cities (OCD to the max)
4. People who use a phone while driving
5. Monkey puzzle trees, they scare me as well as annoy me

People that pass me on the highway while texting.

I've come to the realisation that flies annoy me. For the past hour one has kept flying around the room and keeps landing on me just when I get my concentration back. I also find it annoying that they appear to know when I'm about to chase after them and try to kill or catch them. Right now it's hiding somewhere.

I am a trombone major, and i know one of the most annoying things is when the director points out a mistake someone has made, and the same person makes the EXACT same mistake time and time again.

People that spray my car with their windshield washer fluid cause I'm too close to them. If they drive to freaking speed limit I wouldn't be so close to them.

YES! These people drive me NUTS! Utterly NUTS! I hate when your walking down a narrow hallway and two or three people walk SIDE by SIDE. I just wanna slap the freeking crap out of them. Excuse my language but this annoys me.

Other things that annoy me:
1. I lose(Like cant find) everything... you name it I can lose it.
2. People who walk around making weird noises when they do stuff.
3. When you're at work and that one person decides to fart during a conference. Then everyone laughs...
4. Seeing little kids walking around like adults. I wanna throw them in a diaper and put a pacifer in there mouth til atleast school age.
Anyway enough of me.

What likely annoys me the most are those who refuse to learn from well-given advice even when the person who gives it has him/herself learned the hard way...

Not to mention those who act like they know everything, and turn a blind eye and a cold shoulder to those who have proven otherwise...

The flute. . . need I say more?

Chaos is one of the finer points of art Jurnis. Without chaos art would be incredibly boring, and chaos plays heavily into the styles of many artists.

I have so many things that annoy me, it could be infinite..

-Noise when I'm doing something important
-Sports that involve minimal moving or plain stupidity (How the feck is extreme ironing a sport? Or Golf?)
-Slow drivers on the motorway
-Typing on the keyboard and your finger touches two keys at once e.g. hjey!
-Walking into a room not know why you went in there the first place
-Stray eyelashes that go into your eye

And mostly things in the multi-verse

The Kardashians and all those famous for no reason at all. The media that perpetuates this undeserved fame. And people who continue to pay attention to whatever these fools say or do.
