I need a bit more of your point so I'll ask the question... Why?
i had reasons in another thread... said thread is now gone for good reasons... i can try to explain but it will come out wrong... so I'll just keep it simple and say it gives users a choice...
You didn't really answer my question.
1. Why does this need to be in the forum. What use will this serve that can actually benefit the forum... / Why do they need this choice.
2. If you really need those posts just ask Ace, the posts are not entirely deleted..
3. Why is the good posts relevant here..?
I don't like to make a argument against someone who has not fully made their argument :p
1. Because the whole point of the other thread was why the little green squares of reputation did not matter, it was the quality of a users posts that matter and that's what they should be judged on. If people who wanted to hide there reputation then people wouldn't see someone with very little rep or alot of rep and automatically assume something about them, as new forum members could do. Essentially it gives someone the ability to be taken on face value of there post instead of there reputation for people who do not know them.
2. I'm good for now, I don't want this to be a big drama filled thread, the reason why i kept my original post very simple was because i wanted this thread to be something that was either a yes or a no, not one big huge debate with spam in between...
3. Because they were very good opinions i would like to think...
I agree.Quote:

But then it leads for people to judge on for something else, in this case I daresay post count. Which would Ironically lead to quantity over quality in some cases. It can even be compared to something in evony like prestige, choose to hide it and they may go straight to honor to judge you.:pQuote:

If I was to be judged by someone who immediately looked at my rep for there opinion on me, then maybe I dont care what their judgement on me is..

Don't really see how this is necessary....not a terrible idea seeing as it doesn't hurt anyone. But serves no major purpose either lol. Most people I see hiding their rep are those into the red to make themselves appear better (who knows maybe some of them are great though and we just love to hate them sorta like JP lol).
The way I see it reputation is like prestige, it's kind of pointless and doesn't tell you much besides how active they are on the forums. That being said, like prestige, some people collect it and like it.
If the hide option was optional and not forced on anyone, I don't have an issue with it. Some people like dropping all their prestige too :)
I think it's great you want to change the whole forum's view on rep but somehow this isn't going to make that much difference. Someone with a lot of green bars either doesn't notice, care or wants to show off his/her achievement. While some with red or low rep will hide it.
As Reasoner pointed out people will look at the post count instead.
Post count is certainly not correlated to forum usefulness.
Oh be nice, Norr! I find it interesting that 139 has chosen the rep issue to push.. I owe her some rep when I can around it it again ( :P ) haha..
In all seriousness, I would not mind this feature at all...
I also wouldn't push for it, as I don't know that I would want people hiding their rep. I like taking note of it and judging; ...even though I am aware of the arguments in 139's post addressing rep... interesting isn't it?
Apologies, I do realize that I could've been more clear with that..
I was trying to state that I wouldn't want members hiding their rep, as I like checking rep.. I was also remarking that even though I acknowledge the opinion that rep doesn't reflect too well on a forum member, I still view it. I also do not want to reopen the conversation that was in 139's previous thread, so someone please redirect!!
;)
While I agree that there is a problem with the rep system, in the sense that, for the most part, reputation no longer indicates which members are more helpful as it was intended.
But this isn't the solution to that problem. As stated above, i doubt very many people would use it, it's sort of useless. Most new members don't know what it is anyways, it took me about a month to figure it out.
Also, BigNorr, if you pick on Boleslav I will pick your eyes out.
They could add a credit system. You get points for posting and people can give you their credits for helpful posts. They could also add where you can buy things with the credits.
LOL it's OK SbD, BigNorr was just proving a point.
Most people spam to get their post counts as high as they are already; giving them even more arbitrary numbers to inflate with spam would just make the spam even more frequent.
This is the main point. Some clowns in these forums like to spam others with negative feedback and make their reputation go red. Reality is, new players come to the forums for feedback and game advice and so on. They are going to "trust" a poster with many many green boxes more than a poster with a red box. And lord knows, posters like Rasterbee have many green boxes and don't play the game. All they do is chat in Off-Topic section and troll and goof around.
If Evony was serious in any way to actually help new members they would remove the reputation boxes. It is High School level popularity drama. juvenille and just plain silly and pointless to even have in place. All it does is add to forum drama.
Alsair, do something about it. You guys never had reputation until recently. If you never had a need for it before then it won't be missed.
I think it is well known, well amongst 'forum vets' so to speak who is a useful poster and who isnt. An easy way to check how much one contributes to forums is to check the threads that the person has made rather then looking at reputation, which we all seem to consider useless yet still argue about like school children.
There are lots on here now that do spam threads to get their posts counts up, but at one point in time were very helpful parts of the community but eventually got bored of answering the same questions time and time again ...
One point which I would like to raise is, what exactly is considered useful? Is it helping players, or is it making someone crack a smile during a long workday with a funny pic/comment? Or is it the never ending spambot battle, or the publishing of help threads/game equations which are considered helpful?
New forum members and new players of the game don't know who who is who on the forums. They look at the little green boxes for "trust". That is reality. Everything else means nothing if the little green boxes are maxed out. Now, if there WERE no little green boxes then the new poster/member/player will search the forums like you said and try to find quality information by way of searching rather than trusting little green boxes.
God do I miss argueing with you. First off, people majority of the time when they look for help go to mods, or HnQ. Ofcourse they go to a poster with a lot of green bars sometimes, it happens ( they will search for the answer somewhere else if they dont get it there.) but then if they were to remove it then really the people who go to people with a lot of rep might as well go to someone randomly.
And Rasterbee does play the game. I am not sure if he is atm but he is definitely knowledgeable about the game.
On the subject of rep, it needs to be altered a bit, but I don't have the slightest clue in how really :/
Raster hasn't played the game in over a year and yet somehow they still know more about the mechanics than you.... hmmmm...
Easier said than done.
...wat? What do you mean "You guys never had reputation until recently."? The rep system has been around since day one. It's a default on vBulletin forum software.
You misspelled my name. ;(
But like acer mentioned, rep has actually been on the boards since day 1. The only 'recent' addition was giving people the ability to redrep one another, amongst other things (like being able to see who-off people), which I didn't support, but it wasn't my decision, and still isn't (such a thing would fall to Dawnseeker).

Though I do frequently get alot of requests for advice and help from new players and ones who have been around for awhile I will say. Though since most start with I just saw ur thread about pwning some guy and I was wondering if I could ask you a couple questions about it. So that may be all my lil green boxes or because I do know some stuff. Anyone legit comes to me for help I will help em even if the majority of the time on these forums I'm cracking jokes, spamming, or just p1ssing off the mods in general. Just cause some of us look like we're useless we do know some stuff that we are willin to help other players out with ;)
Alusair, (spelled right). Yeah, I remember now. The red rep thing was added. That red rep feature is just adding to forum drama and will milead new members who come here for info.
And Acer, no, the mechanics for A2 are different that A1. Raster has never played A2. You even said yourself a few times the two are very very different. So don't stick up for Raster. We all know Raster is just here to chat and goof off which is fine. But back to the main problem, red rep.
Red rep is easy to avoid if your not a noob. Those red repped deserve it the majority of the time.(Including me) Each of the four times ive been RR i was in the wrong or rude. Red rep is a good way of allowing players to monitor and keep each other in check without mods having to step in and hand out harsher punishments

Seriously though, get your facts straight. Raster has already beaten Age III.
Forum drama? Now, I know things on your side are really differently perceived then mine, but the forum isn't like a red rep hit squad. People who hit the red rep generally are not gonna be fantastic posters, or helpful for the most part. Just because you were bombarded with red rep does not mean everyone else will, or anyone else will.
lol...Rasterbee has played age II as well. Raster even said to me that he only visits the forum when he plays the game somewhat, so that point is invalid.
Actually I would say in some cases, it has become the trendy thing to do to redrep certain people for no other reason than because they're unpopular with certain social groups. I've seen it and dealt with it, and I do agree at times it's unnecessary drama. Some people don't care about rep, others get offended over it, but as a moderator I find myself sometimes getting dragged into it either way.
You had the point before, but now your missing it.... Red rep is not what this thread is about, neither is green rep... no this thread is about the ability to hide rep for anyone who wants to Knight on up.
Yes or No?
Representative or Admins Feedback Please? :cheer:
Rather have the system dismantled than changed.
