Hypocritically enough, I always have an opinion of things when I don't feel something is being led as well as it could be, but I don't want to be the leader myself- usually because I know, for all my opinions, I'm not the kind that can always make the decisions that need to be made, therefore I'd not be any better. So often I support someone that can make those decisions, and seems to have everyone's best interests in mind.
As for not being bugged, that's another reason I didn't like being leader. I don't like ordering people around or having people rely on me to tell them what to do. I prefer being in the shadows, not the spotlight.
LOL I was almost always in the middle of 3-4 "pink" conversations at a time, but thankfully most of the time we would take it to skype or yahoo or even vent. Talking in whispers in game is a huge inconvenience. Plus I loved keeping record of important conversations, so talking and taking screenshots and compiling conversations was a real pain. My right hand man, and who I really considered a co-host and not a vice host (and was also the host before me) DCJerboa, was the king of screenshots and between the two of us we had many many many MB of Evony info when we left the game. Screenshots, guides, game analysis, maps, charts... you name it :)
people, when they have a question they come to you. A problem they come to you. An arguement they come to you. Very stressful
I think this is why you really need a leader that enjoys being social.... that enjoys the constant talking. I didn't mind it, though I preferred talking to my own alliance most of the time. Teaching, talking, calming tempers and attitudes... LOL it was all fun on most days.
yes but when you get hate mail and threaten mail and diplo mail....i want to pull my hair out
Ahhh... I remember when I hosted for a while, many moons ago. In hindsight, I was an awful host. I tried, I really did, but alas, nothing was to ever become of me. If I remember correctly we were ranked about 45...not high as rankings go, but we were the sister of an alliance ranked high teens I believe. It was fun, I will say that. People are so different and unique. I was unfortunate that I had only been playing the game for about 5 months and didn't know all that much about it. I ended up quitting the server. I tried again on SS54 I believe, but the server was already too far developed for me to have a chance. I tried Age II but that wasn't my cup of tea either.
I think if I were to try hosting again I would be better at it, as now I have a better understanding of the game. My problem is that I don't have quite enough time to be a truly dedicated host, as I am busy and offline most of the day. Plus, a large part of the reason I gave up Evony was because I found out about the world of GFX... And GFX is something I don't want to quit for Evony, I've invested too much time into it. :p
Guhh hosting.
I was host for a little over a year on 138. The way i was made host was that I had randomly joined some alliance first week and 2 days later 6 of us decided to go because the team was awful. I was host because i happened to be the first one to leave. It was only supposed to be temporary til we found an alliance we liked enough to join.
Somehow 6 people grew to 20 and we ended up rocking out and loving it and I kept host because no one else was willing to do it ;) I'm also super bossy so i guess that helps a bit.
I can tell you every single day i wanted to smash people to bits and throw huge temper tantrums. But it was worth it. My team is still going strong today, i stepped down at the beginning of the summer because my work schedule & evony do not mesh well anymore ;)
Things i did to keep the pinking & mails down to a minimum:
1) no blues. no blues no diplo. no diplo no extra mails.
2) Stay small- under 50 people cuts your work load in half ;) much easier to stay organised. 50 active hardcore players pwns 100 noobs any day
3) Make the rules plain and simple mine were as such:
1- No public drama in chat. if you have an issue with someone, take it up in pinks and if that doesn't work pretend you are adult enough to ignore it
2- Don't start wars you can't finish or that will screw the alliance over
3- Always be respectful
Saved me a lot of time & energy ;)
i have no blues but im not keeping ppl restrained in ac
shrug. up to you :) its never restrained in ac, we just dont have fights.
