Ok thanks for that... But by any chance would you be able to enquire on behalf of us... if that could be re-instated? I know it sounds like a long shot but it was worth a try...
The only thing I have to say about this is about rep. I don't understand why rep has been gaining so much attention lately. We don't need a rep system to tell is who the good posters are or who the trolls are. For the most part those of you that seem to be complaining the most about this issue, should already be able to differentiate between the spammers, real posters and trolls. We've been here long enough to know who the main posters are.
I agree that we should stop focusing on rep, for reasons that have already been stated. I believe that allowing topics such as religion and politics to be discussed is a good way to get some (stimulating) activity going around this place. Provided we do this in SOT, things should be able to keep civil due to the restricted membership. Those who do not display sufficient levels of decorum should be kicked out of the SOT group. I think most of the members are capable of holding discussions of a sensitive nature without getting "butthurt".
I believe that the decision to restrict topics such as religion and politics was erroneously made, but that is just my opinion. The decline of the forums might be somewhat stalled if the rules are 'laxed once more.
Nice try. The Server Sections are the model forums of this board.
Agreed.
Most definitely so, compatriot. I'd argue even further that is may perhaps even reverse the decline for a limited time period.
I think that SOT should just be done away with altogether, I mean people are complaining that OTD is now just a section with pointless games, if all those topics from SOT are brought in here, I don't think we would have a problem anymore. I think people are actually looking for conversation nowadays.imo ofc
The thing is, though, the whole "No religion/politics/whatever" rule comes down from TPTB. It's been their stance since the first. Oh, and by TPTB, I'm not talking about the mods. It's higher up than that. :/
So, I don't ever think they'd ever agree. Period.
I didn't think I should make any comment on this.. But I've decided against it.
Look at my post count.
...Now figure that there are other people around here with triple.. quad.. even more than that.. Who haven't even been here as long... Why? Pointless posts and general spamming of no actual purpose...
Just a thought, if OT was more interesting, it wouldn't be this way.
Since I never gained access to SOT, I cannot really compare regular OT to it, but, I do rarely even bother looking in here any more, since most of the material is just spam games, idiocy, and very little juicy discussion. When there is it gets banned.
But, there issue is that if politics/religion etc were allowed topics, then the majority of fools will overall the minority of real discussion/debating posting people, with being offended, angry, or just generally stupid as to what is being discussed, and then they complain, and then the topics just get banned again. It sucks.
Regarding red rep, I am disappointed that it has gone, even though I never even got the opportunity to use it, because I felt that it actually allowed for the outlet of frustration/anger/dislike for someone in a more private, less abrasive manner. It also gave normal members some sort of power/say in what other members are.. But, the rep system is disposable anyway, and actually gives little regard to any members "reputation" , or worth(well, sometimes it actually shows a correct gauge.. But i've seen a lot of at lot of cases where it doesn't)
I'm sad that the point in which I finally ended up actively joining the forums, was the point at which it is quavering on the floor, dying of an essentially incurable disease.
So OT wasn't always about spam games?
I do see some actual serious and interesting disucussions from time to time, but I never thought that a section that is what it is right now could have been ever different.
In my limited understandment of he evony forums (I'm pretty new), no more than 15 persons would actually be willing to take part of an interesting discussion. Well, maybe 25, but that's still extremely low for such a large community. So basically, that's the heart of the problem... Which is bigger than just the lack of ideas. But I believe that, if such threads are kept active by the current few forum members who can do it, it should attract more attention and eventually lead to others joining in.
