if you are the same profx i knew. you are in for a shock. It takes a grand to break top 25.
I held out on botting until 152 you couldnt keep up.
I have an acct on 154 for grins I sent eony an email saying I use a bot.
they sent me a warning... I sent them another email they suspended me for 3 days... another email still botting one more suspension lol
Have fun all :)
Depends what I was doing and what my schedule was like, it fluctuated throughout my time playing. I already said I didn't farm, I'd sell resources for food. It would take 10 minutes at maximum to have me cities fed for the day(minus the warcity that would just continuously lose food if left out of holiday lol).
People forget this is a business. The sole purpose of this game is to make the developers money, if you take away the main thing which 99.9% of the players use, there won't be any profit.
Evony doesn't have ANY leverage of ANY player who bots.
> Evony bans a player
> The player chargebacks
Simple as.
No way in hell will Evony go on a banning spree. 99.9% of the players bot, the people who say they don't bot , I bet your alliance mates bot, and I bet you bot yourself. Sure, Evony can easily ban every botter in the game, they can do it by investigating every account which isn't hard, but they won't do this. They have to feed themselves and their family of course.
Morgan le Fey has made the worst post ever. Girl, you need to look at how businesses work.
my first server-s79-was rumoured to have bots....a rumour....no one admitted it of course for fear of being banned.....but we knew....they were the players w millions upon millions of troops...the kind that you had no hope of winning against even with an effective defence....ss26...was more open about it....and it became a game to figure out who was botting...and the reports were flying in to evony...which of course did no good becuz evony did nothing....key?: botters are coiners and coiners never, ever, EVER....get banned...ss56....we know who the huge botters are, and the coiners...and the noobs and the rest who struggle to survive but play because they love the game.....and again, the coiners/botters never get banned....if you want an effective way to reduce botting...and still stick it to a coiner/botter.......install a limit on troop counts and heroe levels....that falls in line with the resource limits....yes, there will be some very angry players, but it will be effective, not a 100% success rate on reducing the number of botters, but they will have a difficult time beating the system w limits such as those....
This thread isn't about Evony's business model. How can you understand something and come to amicable agreement on anything if you keep bashing the opposing party.
Trouble is players are on the understanding that you need to come up with ideas that 'beat the bot'. Unfortunately it doesn't actually solve those issues and then more ideas are brought forth to 'fix' the previous idea and on on.
Instead of carrying on it's always wise to hear all sides of a debate then make an informed decision can be brought forward that benefit everyone.
Why do players bot? Off the top of my head:
1) It is easier than actually learning to play the game. Rather than learning game mechanics, they can just ride the coat-tails of those who actually explored and learned them.
2) Evony allows it. It would be trivial to stop, well, it at least would have been trivial when if first started, now it would just not be hard. But by their continued inaction, Evony effectively sanctions it for fear of losing paying customers.
3) Players have "invested" too much to be willing to lose it. Invested of those players typically does not include hard work, it is buying things which allows them to bully anyone who attempts to play by the rules. Rules which are not enforced.
4) Players are allowed to build massive armies, armies which can only be supported via large numbers of alt accounts farming 7x24 and by attacking other players who have massive stockpiles, also accumulated by farming 7x24. Oh, and using the market via programmed trading 7x24, manipulating the market via bots, using constant streams of exploits, and on, and on.
5) Because they are not capable of engaging in player v. player strategic battle, it requires actual effort, so instead they allow a handful of programmers to do their thinking for them, bully and battle out of bots, while they sit in WC and mouth off about how great they are.
6) They have learned that the design of the game is contaminated. If you have large numbers of items, the game believes you to be a high coiner, and gives you more. So, it you bot to large armies, then spend hours killing those troops on friendlies, or your alts, the game will start throwing massive numbers of items at you.
7) Because the same players not only play 5, 10, 20, 100 accounts on a server, they play 10 servers too. Even someone like me with no life does not have time for that.
The list goes on.
To stop, again, may seem wordy, but this is a short list:
1) Get caught, get BANNED. Not a 3 day free holiday. BANNED. Account deleted as the rules state! Get banned 3 times, total, all servers, and it is over. No more accts.
2) Simply monitor for violations of game rules that are enforced in client, but not in bot will immediately catch 90% or more: stacked truces, over limit loads come to mind immediately. Bot timing on attacks are a little harder to prove, but not a lot.
3) Pull event timing logs for any suspect account at random (which is 99% or more of all active accounts), and it is obvious.
4) Dont bleeping back down. You ban someone, they are BANNED. Period. Quit giving them things back just because they threaten to reverse their purchases.
5) Quit random enforcements. Taking my resources away because I played the market to take advantage of bot traders and those caught glitching so suddenly could not feed their massive army is BS. It causes me to no longer care if I get banned and have to consider botting myself because you punished me for playing honestly. I did not get those res's by using glitches, I got them by sell my hard earned res's when lumber and iron jumped to 900 because you took away glitch profits, and then bought back when prices fell. I wore a freaking mouse out doing it. Random deleting of resources is not enforcing rules. It is laziness on the same level as the botters.
6) Make food consumption punitive to the extreme for over populating cities. That is, give a city a limit on what it can hold. Go over, and food consumption goes up exponentially, not linearly so that cities with millions of mechs are impossible rather than impossible without a bot and feeder account network. Or easier, simply put a cap of how many troops a city can have. Reach them limit and the city cannot train more until some are removed. Bang, you just removed the 7x24 hour farming needs and the commonly stated excuse for bots. Then force people to actually combat P v. P by removing bots because the farming excuse is gone.
7) Improve the actual game interface so that the bot interfaces are not better.
8) The legal interface must be downloaded every day. That gives the option of putting in daily, changing code which can send an embedded code daily, a code which can be a changing algorithm, different each day, but which must be with every command packet received from the client. Get the wrong code: the legal interface is not being used. Not using the legal interface: banned.
None of that will happen though, because, as stated earlier, Evony sanctioned the use of bots through their inaction against them. Now, almost anyone who plays for more than a week or two uses them, they are afraid to fight chargebacks because they cant win due to arbitrary rule enforcement, and it is more profitable for them to just continue the status quo, allow people to complain, and pretend to care.
Don't know why someone is allowed to create a thread in the first place that discusses "Why people bot" and discuss the reasons botting is a benefit. Along with members that have stated that they do actually bot in the thead, and the mods allow it to remain open when forum rules strictly state not to do it.......By stating all the pros of why people utilize 3rd party software just creates more incentive for anyone new to the game to try it for themselves.......
Maybe I should start making sigs so I am allowed to post whatever I feel like too.....
Evony *allows* bots because if they take them away, they will lose all their money. The people that work for Evony lose their jobs because there is no more product. And Regan Mercantile gets a bad rep for self-destructing their own game so that people will be less likely to purchase stuff on their future games.
SO what do you do?
Go get yourself a bot and compete. It's not that dang hard. Stop complaining about it and do something about it. Evony's decisions are not up to you, your decisions are not up to you. If you choose not to bot, then fine don't b*tch about botters. If you choose to bot, then wow, you can now have as much fun as everybody else.
**** I am not promoting botting, or saying against it, but its pretty obvious what is going on. *****
Seriously you need to look at the facts, you need to think of the bigger picture here because you ain't. Evony can ban every player on every server who bots if they wanted to, they can do this easily. But why should they do that? Do they seriously want to shoot themselves in the foot by not making money? Who's going to pay for this game if they don't bot. They have to keep people happy, I am speaking this from experience.
In server 151, we had this quintrillion food glitch. After the glitch was exposed and what not, evony perma banned every player who used the glitch and associated themselves with the food. This wasn't the case for some of the players, they threatened to chargeback if they didn't get their account back, and guess what? They did get their accounts back with NO LOSS in the res of troops.
Lol this ain't a user friendly game as everyone thinks it is. Reducing bots will just destroy their profits.
