Yes new players should be told that level of walls mean nothing it's the stuff on those walls....Only upgrade when your out of spaces or need to upgrade your town hall. So many players keep building there walls to like level 7 and 8 and only have a few thousand defenses on them. Take the time to build them up before you upgrade them and also get those troop numbers up. It's all a balancing act...you cant get to far forward without bringing up the rest. No point having a huge army with little food coming in. No point in having huge walls with nothing on them. Took me two weeks to max out the spaces on level 7 walls. But now it will take a large number to take them down. Hope this helps newbies cause if not they will just get ransacked after their first week...
This isn't quite true Val. The effect they have is on loyalty. If you have any defenses still intact the loyalty you lose by being hit is lower than if you have no defenses in place. If you want to capture a city then you're going to want to kill off the abatis so you can a) perform the fast scout assault, which is both dangerous and difficult to perform with any abatis up. b) increase each attacks total loyalty drop.
You can do scout attacks with abatis up providing you send enough to beat down the wall, but you'll only drop loyalty by 1, with abatis down that 1 becomes a 4, so you can send far less attacks to drop loyalty down to ideally 12 before the long wait sets in ;p
The best defense against an attack if you're online and know you can't beat down the incoming army, build 1 abatis just prior to them sending their scout spam (which you should expect them to start seconds after their cav have take down your abatis), force them to slow down and send another wave of cav, hopefully they'll be coming to die to however many archers towers you can build during the time it takes for the cav to land. Either way you'll then want to build 1 more abatis to force them to send a full army again, seeing as you'll have a few towers up as well as at least 1 abatis, scout spamming has been removed as an option for them! At which point you'll want to queue up as many towers as you can timed to complete a 1minute after there next attack lands...this is important because you don't want them to die against the incoming forces and now you're one step ahead of them in the defense race and by this point you should have bought yourself enough time that you can keep your loyalty levels up via comforting. The next problem becomes maintaining enough food to keep comforting, which you should be able to easily time, however only send as much as you need to keep comforting, eventually when they see they won't succeed in burning down your loyalty they'll give up. Although they'll probably come back later.
This is an exploit that should be fixed. Any Mods or Devs want to comment?
An exploit that should be fixed? This is just using the game's prestige system to your DISadvantage. People that do this not only will spend countless hours of zombified clicking in order to gain very LITTLE prestige, but they will in turn lose a TON of resources that could of been better spent on an army or defensive fortifications.
This isn't a bug.
The most you can gain doing this is a little over 1,000 prestige per hour. Keep in mind during that hour you will have NO time to take a break, and you will be clicking like mad every second to keep up with the construction / deconstruction on each city.
I say the dev's leave it as is... so that we have more people in the game gaining useless prestige and growing fat on their throne with no army.
Man... hook, line, sinker.
Excellent job, Darwin. I wouldn't have thought it possible to get this many people debating a post that was obviously a joke to begin with. My con man hat is off to you, brother.
Method Too Long for Such Little Prestige
So, when units move, is it only one side that moves, an the other stays put, or do both sides move towards the middle? Which would result in half the rounds before they meet...
Thanks for a readable, no frills post.
This is how reference material should be presented.
Darwin
Excellent post mate this is loud and clear for all those that had trouble understanding. Thanks for your time and effort put in, Maybe you could investigate Defensive calculations defending from Catapults??
