U can win with no losses if the archery level for ballista is higher than archer towers and may take less than 50 rounds.
But wont the ballista move forward and reach the range of the archer towers for more than 10 rounds?A bit confused here...Please advise..
Thank You
i thought balista doesnt move?
ALL SIEGE machines dun move?
Anyone?Please help..Thanks..
So to take a Valley (A space without walls/traps/ranged troops(normally) ) It would be best to just send 2,000-4,000 archers. as with a good enough Archery level they will kill the enemy force before they even get close?
thanks, youve really helped, i thought that ctatapults, ballistas were the best unit, but it seems archers and towers and beat some of them
Nothing will beat catapults and only catapults beat ballistas in range.
Rockfall cannot and touch them due to range of 1300 where if you were to receive free ballistas and catapults prior to having any archery, they would still not be touched by the falling rocks.
The way to beat catapults and ballistas en mass is the same for archers en mass; you send 1 of all the troops you have except warriors, and warriors you send all you can.
Good guide.
Great guide this is really gonna help me out.
Also no matter what i do i can't see that wonderful graph :(
Nice Tactics
After having seen thsi question show up in the Help and Question section of the forum a few times I have decided to make a guide on how to add experience to hero's, complete with images of what to click.
Ok, so you just got lucky on the wheel of fortune, or you opened your packages and found smoe special books to give your hero. Now your looking around and you realize you can't find where you need to click in order to apply the aforementioned items.
Well, you start by clicking on your feastin hall its a small blue building in your city, where your hero's stay.

If you click on the building it will then bring you to the image shown in the next picture, that is the menu for your feasting hall.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c4...oofheroexp.png
I have chosen to use the hero Vita in this case. If you click on the view button at the right hand side where the line points too, you will then be presented with an image similar to this one.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c4...3ofheroexp.png
Then on the right hand side its sort of hard to see, is a small green + sign. If you click on it you will then get this image.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c4...rofheroexp.png
When you reach this point, all that remains is to click the apply button next to the item that you wish to use on your hero.
Hope this helps.
Thank you - very nice illustration.
Ballistas don't start off at range 1400 like it states in the barracks menu? How are you coming up with 1820 range for ball, when lvl 6 arch is minimum to produce them?
First of all I want to thank you for the awesome guide I've used it a lot in the past.
I just wanted to say that scout spamming no longer works. I've tried and it just takes 100 turns then tells you you lose. The guide should still be very useful except for the scout spamming part.
Thank you:
Messalah
Very nice. Might be an idea to optimise those screenshots though as the file sizes are needlessly large.
This could be a very stupid question (and I apoligise)...but here goes.....
If you attack a player with nothing but ballistas, and their gates are closed. Will the ballistas just sit there for hundreds of rounds taking out the archer towers, untouched?
Thanks.
a hundred rounds is the maximum allowed. The attackers auto die after that. I assume they starve.
Abatis only kill cavalry and can only be killed by cavalry (including catapracts of course) BUT workers and transporters will also die if not escorted by REAL soldiers. The Devs keep tweaking the game and scout spamming was stopped a few days ago as Scouts are too weak to overcome even empty walls. I have seen reports of 500 scouts just dying for no reason with a empty wall. Maybe they will change it back again.
You can capture a city that still has abatis intact, saves you the effort of rebuilding them.
Traps are poor defences really, although useful for minor attacks. Your Engineering (makes defences more effective) and Machinery (free replacements) are key to any defence.
IF you have your gates open and have scouts in your city, it is possible to kill scouting parties too. Your defences will do the job for you. I found logs can kill scouts easily.
That means even with lv.10 informatics and 1000 scouts you will find out NOTHING if your target has his gates open and suitable defences (and informatics too maybe).
HONOR loss: The most annoying aspect of the game. Abatis are the worst offenders for attakers losing honor. If you lose more valuable troops than the damage you have done to the enemy then I think you lose honor (silly I know). So if you lose 200 catapracts (expensive units) and take out 60 abatis then you will likely lose some honor. However if you send 1000 warriors against 300 traps then you will not. Of course you must WIN the battle to gain honor. I have gained close to 200k honor but I am sure there are better experts out there who know more about it.
Good information
I have level 9 towns and 1 level 10. If I were to transport right next to a level 10 NPC, what in your opinion would it take to conquer that level 10 NPC? Please be specific in regards to equipment and type of army and how many of each if possible and procedure. I know this is asking a lot but there are probably only 1% of the people playing this game that would know the answer to this.
I ran into a situation trying to conquer a distant city. I easily killed everything and removed all fortifications. so far so good.
Then I tried scout spamming. I choose scouts because they are so fast and I have a limited number of heros to send. Well that didn't work because the scouts could not overcome the walls in 100 turns. So much for scout spamming.
Next, I tried cavelry spamming being that they are the next fastest unit. That too did not work for the same reason: A single cavelry can't overcome the wall in 100 turns.
So my question is -- What is the minimum troup that can overcome just an empty wall within the 100 turns?
so if someone wants to conquer u they have to make ur town's loyalty to 0?
That is basically what I thought but my main weapon will be the catapults by my lvl 10 city. (Why doesn't anyone ever mention using catapults for siege weapons?) I have only been doing this game for about 2 wks and all my main cities have a prestige well over 100k. I have found a couple really good built in "cheats" or maybe I should say making gold and supplies at an astronomical rate. But to go against a LVL 10 NPC the wrong way can wipe me out at little cost to the NPC so I want to be careful. Currently, I play around with lvl 5 and 6 NPC's at little cost to my army but to capture a LVL 10 and have all that power at my disposal is my main quest for this game. I will probably wait a couple more wks so I can get a couple more lvl 10 cities before going against a lvl 10 NPC. Any more suggestions you or anyone else with experience can give me would be great.
Please don't ask what my "cheats" are because the programers of this game are out to wipe away any easy way to do this.
One way to make a killing in this game is to conquer lvl 10 npc's which would save you 100's of hours and 100's of thousands in gold instead of making your own lvl 10 when you already have all the resources you need at your disposal. I believe if you can do it once, you can do it over and over again.
I really like this game but I am building up quite a dislike for the people behind all the changes they are making.
I would probably divide the calculation by 99 - 100.
i.e. take in the maximum number of rounds.

Make sure you know what your alliance members are doing; and HOW they are doing it. What I mean is, make sure you aren't part of an alliance that is causing lot's of trouble for other players, this can lead to retaliation on YOU, just for being a member of the same alliance. And when an alliance with a little power decides to take you out ... that's it; you are gone, down to one city, 0 population and 0 resources. And they may even keep you down... Be courteous; just because it is a game of war doesn't mean you have to talk smack to everyone you attack or to those who attack you. They may come back later when they have gotten stronger, and instead of just taking your resources... you know.
And a little tip > If you are in an alliance, proximity is EVERYTHING!! Don't join an alliance where there are no members near you, instead, search the surrounding area and join with some people near you. That way it won't take too long to reinforce your city if attacked. Or ... if you are lucky enough to have an advanced teleportation scroll, then you know what to do.
this method was fixed u dont get pres from it anymore
To conquer NPC 10lvl with nowadays tactics and logic is very easy and can be done without loosing any troops. How? Think about it. But I assure you it can be done.
lvl 8 wall - full. mainly archer towers, with a mix of abatis, traps, rolling logs and rock falls.
why is it that with all the fortification taken out, i'm still unable to scout spam?
i sent in 1 scout but it got killed.. =/
Hi Guys attached is a Excel 2007 spreadsheet that has a couple of calculations.
The first is a calculation on food and time required for units to attack. based on what as far as I can determine is the correct interpretation of the Speed Game Mechanic (Non-Combat) and the Food Mechanic. I did notice that the food Reqs. of units change when you send them to attack. (Yes I did the research lot of dead arcs and pikes etc. lol :) ) and this has been accounted for.
the second calc is the ongoing food cost of X amount of y type of unit.
The third is the purchase cost of units including food, lumber, stone, Iron and population.
Cheers, enjoy it and if there are any errors you can contact me at monk098@live.com.au please do and I will do my best to fix them.
EDIT* this version of the calc is now out of date. The new version handles the effects that the different level techs have on the equation. I have also added a time function to the unit building cost. and No the attached file is not the new version.
