Google=Umbrella Corp?
Sounds like a reasonable claim. But I doubt it.
You'll have to watch it really, but to sum it up for people not able to view it: The guy who made the vid is saying that google is using it's technology to essentially gain control of the web and it either is or eventually will be able to (i got confused on that) scan any and all info that occurs on the web, including personal emails, etc even our genetic information.
That's kind of a lame summary, but that's pretty much what he's talking about in a nut shell (or what I gathered from it anyway).
Well what are your views on it?
i personally think that the capabilities are there, especially from a company like google, but i dont see what they would have to gain from it. it might be more convincing to me if they had something more than just 'and they get to know everything on the internet'
personally doesn't sound like too much of a feat... they pretty much already do that with targeted ads, recommended links/vids, etc
how bout you?
Mm. Well honestly I don't like the fact that my privacy would be invaded, but that's something that's going to happen no matter what I do. We're kind of unfortunate to be part of a generation where there is no way to keep anything private. Honestly I think that google may end up outsmarting itself.
There's several billion people that have access to the internet probably, and each of those has sites somewhere that have millions of bits of information on them. If google is really tryihng to collect all this data, they're going to have a heck of a time keeping track of it all. And if someone buys a new computer (unless they're keeping track of who buys computers, in which case if someone STEALS a computer) they're going to have to spend awhile trying to figure out who it is that actually has that computer and every single person that's used it and which bit of information actually goes with which person.
If a friend uses a computer and looks up something like PETA while the actual owner of the computer has no interest in saving animals then google has this data on them that is completely false. And unless the owner and the friend exchange information online confessing who was who at the time, google would have no way of correcting this if any of that made any kind of sense.
I really like this point. I think Google is one piece in an entire system that is an invasion of privacy. I don't see Google as being a conspiracy itself. It doesn't have plans for world domination, but it its aspiring to keep itself at the top. The whole problem is the internet itself is an invasion of privacy. You can look anything up on someone.
I have to sign forms to permit a company to do background checks on me when I apply for a job, yet I can just go to the internet itself to see someone's background? Look it up, you'll see many sites that offer that service. Some are pay.
I'm more afraid of that one creep that gets smart and tracks down an innocent girl or family using the internet then Google's conspiracy. But unfortunately Google may be the software segway in all that.
