Google=Umbrella Corp?
Sounds like a reasonable claim. But I doubt it.
You'll have to watch it really, but to sum it up for people not able to view it: The guy who made the vid is saying that google is using it's technology to essentially gain control of the web and it either is or eventually will be able to (i got confused on that) scan any and all info that occurs on the web, including personal emails, etc even our genetic information.
That's kind of a lame summary, but that's pretty much what he's talking about in a nut shell (or what I gathered from it anyway).
Well what are your views on it?
i personally think that the capabilities are there, especially from a company like google, but i dont see what they would have to gain from it. it might be more convincing to me if they had something more than just 'and they get to know everything on the internet'
personally doesn't sound like too much of a feat... they pretty much already do that with targeted ads, recommended links/vids, etc
how bout you?
Mm. Well honestly I don't like the fact that my privacy would be invaded, but that's something that's going to happen no matter what I do. We're kind of unfortunate to be part of a generation where there is no way to keep anything private. Honestly I think that google may end up outsmarting itself.
There's several billion people that have access to the internet probably, and each of those has sites somewhere that have millions of bits of information on them. If google is really tryihng to collect all this data, they're going to have a heck of a time keeping track of it all. And if someone buys a new computer (unless they're keeping track of who buys computers, in which case if someone STEALS a computer) they're going to have to spend awhile trying to figure out who it is that actually has that computer and every single person that's used it and which bit of information actually goes with which person.
If a friend uses a computer and looks up something like PETA while the actual owner of the computer has no interest in saving animals then google has this data on them that is completely false. And unless the owner and the friend exchange information online confessing who was who at the time, google would have no way of correcting this if any of that made any kind of sense.
I really like this point. I think Google is one piece in an entire system that is an invasion of privacy. I don't see Google as being a conspiracy itself. It doesn't have plans for world domination, but it its aspiring to keep itself at the top. The whole problem is the internet itself is an invasion of privacy. You can look anything up on someone.
I have to sign forms to permit a company to do background checks on me when I apply for a job, yet I can just go to the internet itself to see someone's background? Look it up, you'll see many sites that offer that service. Some are pay.
I'm more afraid of that one creep that gets smart and tracks down an innocent girl or family using the internet then Google's conspiracy. But unfortunately Google may be the software segway in all that.
[QUOTE=chinothepony;186151]Yea. The Individual is more scary than google.
Google doesn't seem to individualize very well, and for all it's efforts at narrowing things down i can still type in things in it and get stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with what i was trying to find out.
Even if google was going for world domination, it's target is everybody, and that's a pretty big target. Easy to hit, hard to damage. Smaller targets are harder to hit, but when you hit them you can destroy them completely.
And considering there are still parts of the world that don't even have enough technology like google or even computers (and i'm pretty sure there are others that have google censored so you can only look up certain things) google is going to have to wait until we actually provide everyone with internet access to have world domination.
Or else they're going to have to recruit people to go out and force the information out of people who don't have internet access, but if it comes to that then it would be pretty obvious that google is a force to be stopped and we could take action.
Is this the story that Google, Microsoft and a few other companies where spotted in a hotel in Amster****e the Netherlands (sorry guys, just hate the place).
One big hoax... They all smoked weed and got stoned as hell...
Lol well there's plenty of other conspiracies to make up for it, neh? :P
I just think in the end it comes down to the fact that google still, even if it access medical records, emails, whatever else, it still only has as much information as we give it. And then it's relying on the fact that the information we've given it is true.
One of the most popular sites you get on google is Wikipedia, and we all know wiki can be edited by anyone. One person may put up the correct information and google could record that, but then another person comes along and puts up some other information. Google records that. Then another person puts up something completely different. Google records that. Another person, another story. Google records that.
And then people are supposed to go back and look at all these stories that people have put up and somehow determine which one is true? It would take a lifetime to even break the surface on something like that lol, and by that time the information has changed yet again.
I assume it's why things like the CIA and companies hiring people tend to keep only the mostly relevant and verified information on people. You start trying to collect all the little details on not only the people that are actually relevant to your company but everybody else in the darn world and you're going to go insane pretty quickly-- even with the hi-tech gadgetry google has.
Maybe someday (and I hope I'm not alive when that day comes) there'll be a way to keep track of everything about everybody from their genetic make up to how many times they sneeze in a day, but i don't think google is there yet.
Google is watching you. And so is Big Brother.

My opinion?
Freaked out; scared; really scared.
Because I have GMail.
Google Mail.
Onoz!
Goglez iz goin to rulez thi world!!!! Rin fur u lives!
Oh my... no where to run... except an island in the Indian Ocean...
I wouldn't be scared. Even if you have gmail and they are viewing your messages, there's probably millions of people with gmail. Even if they record your information what are they going to do with it? They don't pay attention to you personally. No offence, but who are you to them actually? Why should they focus on you? There's no logic behind releasing users personal emails on the web because that would only drive users away, people would stop using google and gmail, the company would go out of business and the internet as we know it would cease to exist. And, really, why would anyone on the planet want to read the personal emails of some random person they've never met or heard of or nothing about that lives (or may be dead by now) a billion miles away?
If they DO start releasing information on anybody they're going to release it on everybody and the only effect that will have is at first to make people really really awkward around each other, then make them withdraw from the internet, and possibly make some of them attack google. In the end blackmail will become obsolete as well if this happens. o.O
Don't you need an email to sign up for this game? :s
Thats what I said, he said he typed in a fake email address and it worked :p
Lol sure it did :P
*giggles*
I knew it
Snail Mail would definitely make a come back
We're all going to hell in a handbasket! The world will come to an end, just like it did in the Y2K crisis!
