and my statement stands. half going by the poll above say that there should be at least a penalty more than taking away exploited prestige. ''remove extra prestige and maybe a little more''

I personally think it's fair if they just remove the prestige gained through it and not the prestige gained through building their cities. Perhaps a litle taken from the regular prestige as a punishment might be considered. Perhaps a 10% off the exploited prestige should be a start.
I was not effected by the reset.
I think that every player did work hard, at some point to gain prestige, and am hesitant to accept they should be reset to 0.
However, in order to prevent similar abuses of exploits in the future, some action must be taken.
Clearly they need to have the unfairly gained prestige removed. They did not earn it, it needs to go.
I think it is reasonable to levy an additional penalty as well. Perhaps along the lines of a 25-30% prestige setback.
Now that abuse of exploits has been CLEARLY indicated as a punishable offense, future abuses might warrant full resets.
As this is the first time such action has been taken, players may not have realized that punishment was imminent, and some may have felt pressure to compete with those that were utilizing the exploit and thus participated.
hmm read the words quoted above in red. the weakness come from the designers of the game and the programmers, not the smart players who try to help them and find out all the features and smart moves.
how would a player know that you do not intense to help out smart players?
Are these players not work to obtain the resources, times and efforts to produces these inexpensive troops?
instead of promoting these players to help you guys finding out the "weakness" as you called it, or to us is tip for smart people, to improve this game? Now, we are not hacking the system nor or we try to crash the hardware but only to use what is provided to us (by the designers/programmers) to play this game.
Evony does not provide a manual on everything so what should we do? curiosity is a human trait as well as survival of the fittest. you guy laid down the rules and we play by it. you can't punish people by what they did in the past when there are no rule about what they did is wrong when there no manual or guide about this?
Evony Team make this harsh punishment just to cover up their mistakes. they try to blame these people for their mistakes. if they make the punishment too easy, then people would think that it is Evony Team's false (bad design/programming which no team is perfect.)
you should punish people for what they do when you tell them not to do instead of punish the actions that people take in the past when you do not tell them what's right and what's wrong.
who know in the future, you would tell everybody that you suppose to sell your coins at a higher rate than when they purchase them and then charge the extra amount on their credit cards/paypal etc.
PUNISHMENT only work for when people had been warned but still doing it wrong. Punishments for past actions only discourage people from playing this game. who know if you would announce other things that people are doing correctly now as a wrongdoings and then punish them for that?
even my 3 year old nephew knows this. is the whole team not as smart as a 3 year old kid or are you doing this just to cover up your mistakes in bad design/programming?
This does feel like a cover-up. The so-called "exploiters" played according to the rules of the game. Developers should come to terms with the fact that they made a mistake, and they have no right to punish others for a fault that they left out.
I, like many others, was not affected by the reset. But this could happen to us in the future. We would be innocently playing the game and bam! We could be told that you weren't supposed to do that and now you'll be punished. Think about it people. All of you who are voting that prestige should be reset to zero should keep in mind that this can very well happen to you in the future.
We should have a final answer for all the players who were affected by this exploit within the next 24-48 hours. If you had Prestige removed unfairly, our intention is that you get it back. Hang in there.
I want to digress a little to address the most common complaint I have seen in this thread.
There were absolutely flaws in the game design that allowed the exploit to occur. I'm sure there are more flaws somewhere that will allow other exploits to exist and they just haven't been found or come to our knowledge yet. If we had made a perfect game, no exploits would be possible and no bugs would exist. Unfortunately, we're all human and humans make mistakes and can't foresee every eventuality.
There will always be flaws in the design of every online game. Evony is not unique in this regard. I have been an avid online gamer for years, and I remember map hacks in Red Alert, Stone of Jordan exploits in Diablo II, targeting reticles for mortars in Tribes 2, token-free tier items in World of Warcraft, and the list goes on. In each of these cases, a fault in the code or design allowed these exploits to exist, and in each case the worst abusers of the system were penalized and even banned for taking advantage of the flaw in a way that was obviously (or should have been) unintended.
We fully understand that players will always look for the better, faster and easier path to any objective. It is astounding the things that players think of and your creativity has amazed us and also helped us to improve Evony. So, thanks!
That said, we also want players to exercise judgment and consider their actions. If someone went from 2000th to 20th Prestige rank in a couple days, we want him to realize that his trick is probably not working within the intended game mechanics and to report it to devs, not tell people in his alliance to use it and keep it on the hush-hush (as was done in this case).
We're not breaking new ground by penalizing players. We're not breaking new ground by changing the game mechanics in response to player demand and to fix exploits or features that didn't wind up working the way we thought they would. We're doing our best to keep Evony fun and fair for the players who are playing the game within the intended boundaries. Evony will continue to evolve to meet our vision for the game and to respond to our players.
If you want a static game that will be the same thing week after week and month after month, you should look elsewhere, because Evony will never be that. Mechanics will change, new content will be released and flaws in design will be caught and corrected. This is the nature of online gaming; but more than that, it is our vision for this game to keep the content as compelling and exciting as we can so that we can continue to challenge and entertain all of our diverse players.
I have to agree here... I was also not one directly affected, but am decidedly concerned at the way in which this whole issue was handled.
First, as you point out, there was no warning/rule clarification/etc., ANYTHING, on Evony's part, before the prestige was just reset. Punishment, without knowing that you were doing something wrong, just results in a lot of resentment, confusion and upset (welcome to this thread).
Further, I know several people affected by this that are *not* exploiting in the way described, but earning their prestige legitimately.... and then, they get to be labeled cheaters and exploiters? Insulted, pretty harshly by any gamers terms, because they've put a lot of hours in this game and actually have the troops/determination to now gain a lot of prestige quickly? I've seen several, that since the reset are over 100K and well on their way again. Gee, I dunno, these same sort of people, by any other definition than Evony's, would simply be smart, active players.
If it was truly Evony's intention to reprimand those that WERE, in fact, cheating in some way... I would think they would be able to review accounts - since there was only 150 of these suspects? - and individually decide what needed to happen, before such a blanket and blatantly BAD 'fix' was made.
And I have to wonder... What's next? Are we supposed to guess what it is that Evony finds exploitive? Will we have any warning? What if today's 'fair play' suddenly becomes unfavorable to the Evony devs.... would I (or you? think about it..) get a reset as well?
Evony, seriously. Wrong move. Give the prestige back, send apologies and work on your people skills. If you think someone's doing something wrong, you need to give them FAIR WARNING to stop doing it, before you enact such radical punishments.
Well after this fiasco, and no disrespect to the mods, you seem to do what your told to do...I would strongly urge everyone that if they find some sort of gain in this game to not come forward and tell anyone, keep it to yourself, let your friends know but only if they dont let it out in public, because obviously those that try to help by telling get screwed too.
I have a lot of choice words for the designers of this game, but I will keep them to myself as I dont want to sound like Clint Eastwood in Gran Turino, which by the way was one of the most hilarious movies I have ever seen, sorry off topic, lol...but yah
