I thought all of this was done with?
The cheats, sorry!!! 'unfairly dealt with players' got their points back and we are back to normal?
I never did put my point of view on this, but I might as well seeing as someone else opened the box again.
THIS WAS AN OBVIOUS EXPLOIT
Sending troops specifically to lose a battle and suicide, just to inflate a particular number or score is obviously not an intended gameplay strategy.
I have found many many such exploits in all sorts of console games and stand alone games and you know that you are only cheating yourself when you use them.
Now we come to the world of MMOG's and yes I am sure that if I looked I could find quite a few of these type of exploits. The difference in a MMOG is that you are no longer just cheating yourself, you are now cheating the whole game community.
Just because there is a loophole that you found in the programming doesn't
make it right to exploit it and just because a large number of players do the same thing, doesn't stop it from being an exploit.
It would be better to just let this rest but obviously some players still feel aggrieved. Well sorry but nothing that you say will improve my opinion of those who 'exploited'.
Prestige is Bollocks anyhow. Better to have lower prestige and a larger army anyday.
The conversation is pointless, prestige has been given back and now we see things like this again:

Something like this should be red flag to any game moderator but obviously no-one cares.
ok,
Now I have something else to say. If sending thousands of warriors to sacrifice themselves against a level 10 npc over and over again is an exploit. And I am getting that this is an exploit because it was done repetatively, then anything you do repetatively is an exploit.
If you attack the same cities over and over again then you may be committing an exploit
If you farm ANYTHING for resources (Player or Npc) then you just may be committing an exploit
get the point...
exploits apparently point to some kind of obsessive compulsive behavior..
thanks
disclaimer....above post may be filled with sarcasm
The real issue here is simple: An exploitation needs to be clarified and well-defined, as well as officially announced by the proper Evony representative.
Unless an official statement is released explaining punishable exploitation behavior, by evony staff, then all other statements made by mods, players and trolls remain as follows:
Conjecture; Ad Hominem; debate, discussion; appeals to belief, authority, emotion, ridicule, popularity and spite; strawman; bandwagoning; grandstanding; minimalizing; generalizing; sweeping statements; personal attack; begging the question; emotional outbursts; grievance; nuisance; opinion; shenanigans; sarcasm(for you Corwin); outright guessing; trolling.. etc..etc.. and all that jazz.
Evony had never previously stated such behavior constituted a 'exploitation'. Instead, behavior was assumed to be a known exploitation and was retroactively enforced. As Corwin pointed out, this sets a precedent: Any action you do in this game can be retroactively constituted as a violation, and punishment can and will be levied for said infraction without prior notice.
This game has a 'world' that was built by the devs.
It is our aim in the game to determine what limits there are and what exploits there are.
In the real world, exploits happen all the time and no one can say, "not fair".
If the devs see an exploit they thing takes away from their 'world', then they will stop it and have done so.
This is our environment and our goal is to survive. We do not make the rules, but we do all we can to determine what rules apply and how.
My thoughts on the matter.
Daev
Seriously. I know this is the first online game for some of you. The fact that its free draws a crowd of probably a lot more versatility then a subscription based game.
But get over it.
Every game has had exploits. All exploits are a result of flawed development, aka human mistakes. And it is usually the company's best interests to not allow any information out about these exploits until they are handled. EVERY SINGLE ONLINE GAME I'VE ever played including WoW which has 11 million players, has sent the shotgun message of an exploit out very late at times, in which the players must have to adapt quickly.
Most of this is common sense. And if you don't have it that's fine, you learn it through their announcements. But if you play dumb, trying to think like a rat in the maze. Well you're gonna get shocked.
Bingo, I've played many a game as well and I think the shotgun messages have made the games better nearly every time. Problems or exploits have to be acknowledged at some point, and the sooner the better. If it's something busted, dont complain when they fix it!
If you lose a battle, you lose prestige. Only if you win a battle do you gain prestige, and you gain it based on losses (zero losses generally result in 3 prestige, where as a great % loss = a large prestige gain).
I sent in 6,000 ballistas to test an NPC and all died.. I lost 2400 prestige in the process. If in the past you could gain prestige even by losing, that has been corrected now.
Figure it this way:
If you would brag about it on the forums, it's strategy.
If you wouldn't tell an admin, it's an exploit.
If both, it's pretty damn stupid.
well, no offence, but this is about a month old thread Xander. But whatever, just thought i'd tell you.
if you really need to know what an exploit is, it's something that is so obviously unfair that it can't be right. such as the fact that no matter how large an attack or how many times you are attacked so long as you have food a warehouse and time your city can't be taken.
Talmon, wasn't that your idea? What you just posted?
no I herd about it on the forum I just constructed a guide for it.
