Well your comment was bunk. Because everyone has different tastes. So you were never going to give +rep no matter the answer anyway. If someone would give you proof with a band or song, you'd simply say, I don't consider that emo or punk. Which proves music labels are moot and subject to personal perception.
Which proves emo to you is not the same emo to me. Nor punk. Which proves those labels are meaningless.

Sure, it might have come from it, but in no way is it like it. However, others think that emo could have its roots in Simon and Garfunkel, who aren't in any way punk.
